I don't know how many people are on the forum in the Lubbock area but since Slaton is right here you might want to let them know and maybe be able to meet a few more people here.
I don't know that I'll be able to be there (I was actually planning a trip down to the DFW area with that weekend as a strong possible) but if I'm in town there's a good chance I will be.

Sounds great unless the warden puts me in solitary again. Being in Lubbock has at least one perk. I'll see who else I can round up within the riding community here.
We could do the little canyon run right after lunch and probably meet up with more riders. I'm sure others know what I am referring to.

I was hoping to make this but I was thinking that everyone rode down together on Saturday. I read the posts and found out some of you are riding down on Friday. I don't normally work weekends except for when I carry the emergency phone but DH works Saturdays and I hate to keep leaving him home.:trust:
So, I won't be able to meet ya'll this time. DH and I are still riding down on Saturday and coming back Sunday.

Ron and I have not left for our Colorado trip yet due to all the rain here and out there. We are considering leaving out here Friday morning on Hwy 199 to Seymoure and then hit 82 on into Lubbock. Yea...it is faster to go I-20 to the other side of Sweetwater, but the scenery is far nicer going the way I am going. I grew up there so I know my way around. Just not sure where we will stay...possibly Ave Q & 50th street area. There are a few decent motels around there and then Slayton is just down the road. Might even swing thru that "mud-hole", Buffalo Springs Lake...havent been out there in 25 years. After the whing-ding, we will head on out to Santa Fe Saturday afternoon, probably going thru Clovis. So, if anyone wants to venture on West...come on. If you want to go with us on our route from Fort Worth to Lubbock, call me or email me so that we can arrange a meet up place, or if you want to come to my house, I will have plenty of coffee waiting. We will probably leave out from my house somewhere around 10 to 10:30 Friday morning. I am not that fond of riding at night out that way..the bugs are too big.
Chuck...got some great courthouses the route I am going and you will also go right by and thru the 6666 Ranch as well as the PitchFork Ranch. Pretty cool history on how the 6666 ranch got its name.

$hooter, plan on the rest stop just before Benjamin at the narrows and shortly after Vera. Also your in for a surprise when you hit Guthrie. TxDot rerouted the highway to the south and west of town. You come out between the 6666 Mansion and their relatively new thoroughbred facility. Really a nice change for us that drive that road regularly. Also, don't forget to stop in Dickens at TC's Ponderosa for a great BBQ sandwich. On Friday's they have a beef rib plate special that is worth the stop. :sun:

Back in the 60's, alot of us use to go to a road side park a few miles East of Dickens (I think). and we called it Silver Falls. Back then it was very popular with all around as a great swimming hole and picnic area. We made a stop there last year and I couldnt believe what I saw there...its a dump now down where the water use to run. The dam on the North side of the highway looks like it is ready to cave in any minute. The creek bed areas are all grown up with weeds and crap. We use to go down river about 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile to hundreds of black berry bushes but I would guess that they are all gone now.
We went thru Benjamin last year and they were almost finished with the by-pass. They may have finished it, but I will pull off and ride thru "town" just for old times sake.
We did stop at that BBQ place last year too and it was pretty good. Some of the others stopped a couple of miles East of there on the side of the road for a smoke break. Before we left the Silver falls road side park, I told everyone that we could stop up the road a few miles and get a cold drink, but they stopped before they got there. They finally came on up the hill and saw the bikes parked and then they pulled over. They said we didnt know this was here and I told them that I didnt either, but I reminded them that I did tell them that there was a small town just up the road.
I think I am going to try to get out of here around 10 am Friday morning, cruise my way to lubbock and visit a few friends that are still there, then head over and get a spot to build a nest in...go to Slayton and be out of Slayton no later then 1 pm and head out for Santa Fe or farther. I want to be in Ouray Monday, taking the senic route thru Telluride. I dont think I will take on Black Bear Pass on a GoldWing tho...did it once in a jeep years ago and that was enough.

Anyone doing any kind of runs around Slaton afterwards? There's a pretty nice Canyon which I'm sure most know about just behind Slaton... then if someone wants to go for a couple hours I usually head out to Spur and that lake area (shoot down 84 to post, post to the lake, lake to spur, then back to Lubbock from around the lake... FM 40 I think it is. Very nice roads, unless you get some dumb-butt on the two lane bridge that can't watch the road.:rider:

Hudd, name a place for us in Lubbock to meet that everyone will be familiar with. Flying J comes to mind since it's right on I-27 or whereever is good for ya'll.
Heading up to Cotton Center this afternoon for a little ride and to visit a buddy who's a crop duster. He rides a VTX 1800 and I'll try to get him to show up also. Something he might enjoy since he rides more than most people I know as it is.

That sounds good 9511234. Would be a good run for sure. They were doing some roadwork on FM 40 so I'll check with a neighbor since he was one of the workers out there. Not sure exactly where but will find out.
The Flying J sounds good. It's right there off 4th St. and I-27. Easy to get to unless someone else thinks of something better!
I'm all for a ride afterwards, given my mom doesn't pop in for a surprise visit this weekend.
Yellowhouse Canyon just north of Slaton is a good ride, but short.
I'd also recommend the following rides, one of my favorites:
Down & out of the canyon, back up to FM 40
FM 40 west to FM 651...into Post
FM 669 south, cut off to Fluvanna on FM 2350 (and maybe a stop at Rolling Thunder), then into Snyder
take FM 208 back up to US 380, then west into Post

I guess I'm out. We're getting another exchange student from Moldova for the next school year and the rep from the organization is coming by for the obligatory home visit on Saturday. :-(

I'll be there. Hudd I was looking closer into your trip and that one seems like a fun one, too. Afternoon rides are best discussed over pie, though. :)
See you Saturday! I'll be offline, but you folks can reach me on my cell if you need anything from me.

Sounds good all the way around. Slaton Bakery is gonna be overwhelmed. LOL There is also Klemke's BBQ joint nearly next door. Some may wish to check it out also. That's where I usually take my deer for processing but they have ventured into BBQ bigger now. They always were award winners for many years.
Spoke with Sockwell on the phone today. He'll be riding down 380 tomorrow so if anyone sees a 73 year old man riding alone, tag along. Sounds like he's gonna be the senior rider as far as age goes.

Just a thought here. Has anyone called the Bakery to let them know we will be coming? I'll be down there tomorrow and if you would like I'll see if we can get the one separate room for us all. It's a small place so I think they would like a heads up prior to our arrival. Just say the word and I'll drop in there tomorrow afternoon (Friday). :eat:

I have exchanged emails with them - latest was earlier this week. They are expecting us but I have not explicitly asked for a separate room. I had estimated 15-20. I also gave them the link to this thread. :sun:
You are welcome to drop by and speak up for us. :trust:
and thanks, too. :thumb:

Justin (jblaze5779):
Why are you listed as no and as probable? Are you going? I would love to go, but I really need to do some stuff around the house and would have to "ride like the wind" to make it for lunch, then make it home.

I saw that post, but I wasn't sure if it was a store or if it was set up to eat in. Guess if I can't find someplace to eat, I can just eat MORE pie.:eat:

Tonight has to be one of the most perfect evenings. Should get out and go for a ride.
Thanks for the patience with me. I'm new to all the group stuff. Been a rider a very long time but was always a loner. Ya'll have put together a cool event. :zen:
