Hello folks,

I would appreciate your input on below questions I have for my upcoming trip.

Question1:
Texas Adventure Ride route 1 is the Langtry route. Along this route, FM 1024 west ends and becomes Pandale rd. aka Langtry rd. The route calls for all the way south on Pandale rd. However, there is Felder Draw rd. splitting west, which becomesShort Cut rd. and mets Pumpville rd., going south to Pumpville and to fm1865.

The question is how are the dirt roads: Felder Draw rd, Short Cut rd, Pumpville rd. to be travelling on GS Adv??????? I am thinking of taking this route instead of taking Pandale rd. all the way down

Question2:
Just south of Tarpley on 462, there is a dirt road on the map: cr 131 going east through Hill Country State Natural Area and becoming fm1077, ending in Bandera.

Is cr131 suitable for loaded GS ADV?????? or does it really go through as it shows on the map?

Any input is appreciated.

John,

The last time I was down around Langtry all the roads you've mentioned in that area were rideable on a GS/Strom/etc. It's been a few years so things might have changed but they were reasonably maintained when I was there and I'll bet they are the same today.

CR 131 was rideable on a GS. A few years ago it was listed as one of the top 10 dual sport roads by the (few) dual sport readers of Ride Texas magazine. I went and rode it on my KLR and, candidly, though it was pretty boring - well maintained gravel passable by any passenger car. I wouldn't go out of my way to ride it again. That's just my opinion, though. YMMV.

Last winter, more or less by accident, I rode most of the Roads north of Langtry that you are asking about on a loaded ST1100. It wasn't the most fun I've ever had, but if I can do it on a 900 lb street bike, I would guess that it's pretty doable on something more appropriate.
