So here's the plan.Load the bike up(Heavy Bus, Marie's GSXR, and my RC51) drag them to Junction or possibly Kerrville area get a motel Saturday afternoon and then unload and ride!

2 days in the area of the Twisted Sisters
Riding the sisters, RR470, RR187, SR39

Load back up travel to Fburg unload and ride
2 Days In Fredericksburg rented a Bed and Breakfast(Complete house to ourselves!)
Riding Willow City loop, old Sa , #9, FM473, 16 north, 1376, 1888, 965 Devils Backbone,

Load back up head to S. A. unload and ride
2 Days in San Antonio where we stay at a friends apt who is out of town:trust: River Walk, shopping

Load up yeah you know
Then up to Austin for 2 days to visit with my son.
One reason for taking the trailer is so we can take an extra Bike for my Son to ride in the Austin area the other reason is security we can lock them in the trailer at night. OK OK you got me I'm not sure I can do that many miles on the RC51 so I have the HeavyBus to fall back on!

So what am I missing? Food reccomendations all these areas, Points of interest? Most important any roads I have overlooked in the San Antonio Austin area.
I know you guys have a secret little road or a favorite place to eat, so fess up:eat::rider: what am I over looking?

forget Coopers, finds a Rudy's or a Miteska's ( the family has several located around and about)
ROT in town this week.

Go out to Elgin and try either The South side Market on the West end of town of Meyers at the other end. US290 on the way to Houston (20 miles out of Austin) Good to great sausage. BBQ is not bad either

Do a slow ride around the Willow City Loop. It is lovely.

Make sure to ride out of Kerrville on 16 to 337 and do all of 337. Stay away from the weekend or you will be crawling behind Harleys.

On 337 near Medina (I think) is a new spot called the Biker's Outlook. It has a deck overlooking the highway and the couple who opened it appreciate any visitor. The deck is a fun stop!

If you're willing to go to Kerrville, I highly suggest heading down 16 halfway to Medina and stay at Koyote Ranch. It's on the right side of 16 heading South immediately following the really twisty part! I have stayed there many times and enjoyed it every time! Plus it's right at the start (IMO) of the best riding down there..

Ok then, color "us both" green.:sun:

We're both currently on moto-restriction, per doctoral decree. We've, the Mrs. and I, been discussing forgoing trackdays for a couple months and spending that time riding places like the hill country.

Please do post a write-up with pics and whatnot for the rest of us to consider follwing your footsteps, as it were.

You can count on it but most likely from the "Ladies" perspective as she's the big writer I'm just the planner. We are hoping for tons of pics and video and reviews. An early review for Absolute Charm B&B. These guys have anything you could want! In town out of town rustic cozy retro hot tubs jacuzzi bathtubs big screens internet, fireplaces, Tons of options. And the prices are very reasonable, we got a cottage all to our selves 1 blk off mainstreet jacuzzi tub outdoor Hot Tub $125 per nite during the week 2 nite minimum! They have on line listings with 4 pics of each different B&B, accurate descriptions of ammenities, and prices listed for each one! Super easy super convenient and reasonably priced(have you priced Holiday Inn Express lately). My advice if you want to get lucky:trust: or just refresh the romance:box: check them out!
On the other hand,,, If you don't want to spend the days snuggled up in a bed with 20 throw pillows watching the Oxygen channel, Shopping making cooing sounds and holding hands with your girl, don't let her see that website! Because they all go :loco::drool: when they see that stuff it's like some kind of Zombie trance!

hate to break it to you but there will be no avoiding the rot madness this weekend. on other forums found several post about doing the sisters this weekend, not to mention the leo's. not that you can miss them but look out for large groups of loud slow moving vehicles. have been told by several people the best time to do the sisters is a week day, I am feeling a fever coming on. I really do hate this time of the year in austin between the chrome and all the oogling by cagers at the chrome makes daily commutes suck.
be safe this weekend on the way home seen an ambulance heading towards the convention center already.

We were in F'Burg just at the end of May for our 28th Anniversary. We have a really good friend who is a chef and recommended a place called the Hilltop Cafe. It is on the road between F'Burg and Mason, about 9 miles outside of F'burg. A really cool place, food is spectacular. We had dinner on Thursday and liked it so much we went back for lunch on Friday. link

Yeah I figured as much. Our plan is a "Pre-run" Saturday or Sunday at legal speeds. Just enjoy the view and check out the pavement curves LEO's that might be in attendance. Then return geared up( full leathers) for a somewhat more "Spirited " ride. My RC51 reall needs to stretch it's legs it's been shop bound waaay tooo long!:rider:

Man that looks good! We will definately swing though and grab some vittles! :eat:Thanks for the recommend!

My son lives in Austin and the plan is to spend a day or two riding with and visiting him(another reason for taking 3 bikes) but the ROT is why we put him off till the end of the week to avoid the mess in ATX. Speaking of what about some riding in the ATX area?

Other site seeing pie/lunch/dinner recommendations FBurg ATX S A Camp wood Medina Marble Falls?
Wow wonder if we really have enough time to hit all of this?

A man that owns an RC51 might need to look at Lime Creek Road while in ATx. Find Volente, Tx on a map & you'll see LCR riunning from Volente along the east side of a prong of Lake Travis northward to Cedar Park where it deadends into RM1431. Do not do this til the ROT folks are gone - & watch out for those crotch rockets:eek2:

One of my favs, kinda hard to find... it downstairs in a cellar on the North side of the main drag in F-burg.

Rathskeller – 260 E. Main, (830) 990-5858

I used to love the Cotton Gin Restaurant, across 16 from the airport, but last time we were through F-burg they had a new name sign out front. Don't know what happened, and we haven't been there to try the New place yet.

For breakfast, I like the hidden Rather Sweet Bakery, they have breakfast items too... http://www.rathersweet.com/

Well after a few days to get caught up at work and home a few days to get rested up here's the story.
We hit Kerrville late in the evening and ate at Crackerbarrel. The next morning it was up clean the bikes
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y109/ns50r/Vacation09/DSC02417.jpg

and on the road to Bandera
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y109/ns50r/Vacation09/DSC02434.jpg

We had planned on eating at the OST but between traffic the heat and trying to find a shady place to park(VERY important when you have a gel seat! because they heat up and stay hot FOREVER!)
we decided on the Bandera Saloon.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y109/ns50r/Vacation09/03.jpg

The burgers are great the tea ice cold and the Staff are some of the nicest people in Bandera! After a quick trip to the Bathroom (which are pretty cool Tattoo flash and signs in the Mens room,,,, DON'T ask!)
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y109/ns50r/Vacation09/07.jpg

so back on the road with the Three Twisted Sisters! man I have never seen so many blind turns! The cage drivers were amazingly friendly moving over to allow us to pass very quickly and courteously (sp?) we saw very few Bikes and only 2 Cops, both of which we recieved plenty of flashing headlights in advance to warn us. I want to point out that we started our vacation this weekend to avoid the ROT Rally and all of the traffic in the Austin area and figured it would also mean less traffic in the Sisters, we were right.
A quick stop for gas and popsicles!
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y109/ns50r/Vacation09/09.jpg

A quick peek at SRAD's rear tire on the RC51 shows he was riding a little more aggressively than me:eek2:
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y109/ns50r/Vacation09/10.jpg

No speed limits were harmed in the filming of these pictures and the tires you see were actually scrubbed by proffessional Riders on a closed circuit:trust:

SRADkneedragger
06-25-2009, 10:18 AM
which way now?
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y109/ns50r/Vacation09/13.jpg
there's just no such thing as a wrong turn down here! The only problem was the RC51's rather limited fuel range(about 120 miles tops if NOT ridden aggressively) so we had to watch our route and pay attention to gas stops.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y109/ns50r/Vacation09/16.jpg

HHHMMMM, I just noticed, I seem to ALWAYS be the one pumping gas! I think I've been scammed!
so it's back to the Hotel and into the pool to cool off and then out to Crackerbarrel again.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y109/ns50r/Vacation09/02.jpg

Even our "Horses" needed a rest in the shade. Something to think about, we kept the bikes locked in the trailer at nite and the trailer locked to the truck and backed into a wall where you could not open the door, seems someone tried to break off the hitchpin lock(with no success) it was bent pretty far, I guess they didn't notice the safety chains were locked on also. Be sure and protect your stuff!
Next we were off to Fredericksburg and our Bed and Breakfast cottage.
We arrived to find the parking arrangements perfect.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y109/ns50r/Vacation09/P1010001-1.jpg
After settling in SRAD got out the HeavyBus and decided to ride it some
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y109/ns50r/Vacation09/P1010022.jpg
as we headed out to dinner at ,,,
you guessed it the Auslander! Then back to our cottage to rest relax and watch a little TV in our big fat fluffy robes courtesy of Absolute Charm Bed and Breakfast. Check them out pretty affordable rooms as low as $99 on weeknights! and as high as,, well you can look yourself.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y109/ns50r/Vacation09/P1010031.jpg
The next day lunch was with gift certificates from the B&B at a local Mexican resteruant and I forgot the name but SRAD had some Seafood soup that was,, well disgusting is the word I would use but he loved it:doh: Fish, shrimp, octopus oysters? GAK! Who knows what was in there!
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y109/ns50r/Vacation09/DSC02421.jpg

MY food however was great:eat: and as a bonus they seem to be Motorcycle friendly they had this poster on the wall

A quick trip out to Enchanted Rock
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y109/ns50r/Vacation09/P1010075.jpg
I really wanted to check it out but with temps at 100+ I figured we would come back in the fall. It's HUGE!
A quick stop to cool off I felt like diving in !

Not a bunch of shine and polish trailer queens these bikes are riders. A great time with some great people although some were disapointed because they were expecting the HeavyBus I'm pretty sure showing up on it instead of my GSXR750 would have resulted in some races and $$$ changing hands and thats EXACTLY why I didn't ride it.

Well thats about all for San Antonio so it was off to Austin to visit SRAD's son Rick. If you haven't guessed Rick is a Personal Trainer so he is pretty buff. Of course he loves to ride but never seems to have a bike of his own so it's always Dads, or in this case MY RaceBike.

One of the early requirements to the HeavyBus project was that the bike either remain a daily rider of could be returned to one easily. Well as you can see the HeavyBus had no problems droning along all day long 2 up in 100+ weather

I didn't mean to come off harsh...Just wanted to pick at the robe pic is all. I think it's great that you two share(rub-it-in) this kinda stuff with the rest of us. :zen:

Just make sure you have no photoproof of these incidents...there may be 'guycard' issues. :-P

This looked like a real good trip. I got some good tips from it. I'll be taking my wife down to that area for a couple of days at the end of the month.

Make sure to ride out of Kerrville on 16 to 337 and do all of 337. Stay away from the weekend or you will be crawling behind Harleys.

Harly riders are being busted on by Soozy 'cause they hold her up on her Halfabusa! Which I think is a really cool scooter incidentally.

I better be careful, she's been way more adventurous than me and my old Yamaha might hold her up too! Of course I wouldn't get in front of Marie on a bet. She rides a 'Busa and a half.
