As we rode through the ozarks my eye kept wandering over all the gravel tracks heading off into the woods, so I went on an information search.

Just a shot of the trail system on the west side of the pig trail on highway 23 in the ozarks. :dude: you may have to click it get a good pic...

Thats just one of 6 districts in the Ozark national forest.

I think I'm gonna have to pack a tent and go check em out at my earliest convenience.

The Ouachita national forest is bigger and closer but doesn't seem as motor friendly. I don't think it has the elevation changes either.

I'm also gonna have to take a look at that big ole forest system north of deal's gap for August.

I wonder if the garmin high detail national forest maps are anywhere near cutrren on open fire roads and trails.

There are hundreds of ATV / bike trails along the famed "Pig Trail"
plus all the trail systems down near Mena in the Wolf Pen Gap area.
In North Carolina check out the "Tellico Plains" area at the start of the Cherahola Skyway - great offroad riding areas all around there and all through the smoky mountains.
Texas has less than 4% state land available for public use of which only miniscule percentage of that is available for off road use.
States like Arkansas , Missouri, North Carolina ( and many Western states )are virtual endless playgrounds for OHV use - a much higher precentage and square miles of state riding areas available though it's a constant struggle to keep all the available riding areas open.
On top of that the "Trans-America" off road trail system begins in NC and crosses most the state of Arkansas.
Plenty of riding areas up there - street or dirt
