End of Kodachrome (http://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-20090622-707645.html)

When I think back
On all the crap I learned in high school
It's a wonder
I can think at all
And though my lack of education
Hasn't hurt me none
I can read the writing on the wall

Kodachrome
They give us those nice bright colors
They give us the greens of summers
Makes you think all the world's a sunny day, Oh yeah
I got a Nikon camera
I love to take a photograph
So mama don't take my Kodachrome away

If you took all the girls I knew
When I was single
And brought them all together for one night
I know they'd never match
my sweet imagination
everything looks WORSE in black and white

Kodachrome
They give us those nice bright colors
They give us the greens of summers
Makes you think all the world's a sunny day, Oh yeah
I got a Nikon camera
I love to take a photograph
So mama don't take my Kodachrome away

Yes, a sad day indeed....

I sure burned a lot of Kodachrome over the years as did my dad. His stuff from the 40's is still as bright and crisp as any DSLR pixel shot today. I guess my film bodied gear just went down in value today.

Shot tons of Kodachrome in college as a journalism student. We shot about twice as much in black & white, but I loved shooting in color. Our small school lab wouldn't pop for color developing chemicals, so we always had to send it off for processing and printing. Sure wish I had learned to print color.

Sad day, indeed.

Here's a Yahoo! article (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090622/ap_on_re_us/us_kodachrome_s_demise_8)

Kodak's page here (http://homepage.1000words.kodak.com/default.asp?item=2388083) on the announcement

Here's Kodak's tribute slideshow (http://www.kodak.com/eknec/PageQuerier.jhtml?pq-path=15398&pq-locale=en_US&_requestid=2026) to the film

I used to go thru tons of Kodachrome, but mostly used Ektachrome for professional work because it could be processed in-house, (E6) and it was for short-lived use in multi-image shows. Short-lived meaning months or years. My Kodachrome looks as good as ever. And *someday* I hope to bust out my Schneider loupe and look at all that stuff again.

And who remembers Cibachrome, the printing paper for printing from positive film. Wow... in the right hands.

I saw the writing on the wall about 1.5 years re Kodachrome and heart-breakingly sold the last of my Nikon film gear. It *really* hurt.

About 15 years or so ago I bought the next-to-the-top-of-the-line Nikon film camera, an N90s with the data back and the extra battery holder. Probably cost about $1100. Here is what KEH's online quote wizard (http://www.keh.com/OnLineStore/SellYourGear.aspx) will give me for it now ...

1 NIKON AUTO FOCUS N90S WITH MB-10 WITH MS11 BATTERY HOLDER (2 CR123A) EX $26.00

Total Estimated Value : $26.00

Oh man, that *is* painful. I was a little luckier with the F2 & its successors...
but not much...but the F2 is a true classic, even if it's no good except in a display case as one o' dem objet'd'art thaings.

Yep did some of that in the late 70s early 80s before kids started taking all my time and intruding on my darkroom (closet) and lab (other bathroom).

Still have quite a few K25 and K64 slides in 140 slide trays and LOTS of those little yellow boxes. :lol2:

Not sure if I have a working slide projector anymore, though... :ponder:

If you just feel the need to look at them, I do.....;-)
