'Photoshopping" pics

So, ever had a great photo, except for that big street sign or ugly sodium arc light?
I don't have photoshop; I use paint.net, an opensource photo editing program. I got a nice pic this weekend of a steeple, except that they uglied it up by mounting a big sodium night light on it. Here's my efforts

Do you have any tips or tricks to offer?

Nice clone job. You might also try Gimpshop (not just the regular 'Gimp'). It functions very similarly to PS, and from what I've used, is as powerful as, and sometimes more powerful/flexible than PS. It's also open source and quite a bit more powerful than Paint.net. There are also tons of actions out there for it as well. If I were doing photography just for fun, I'd definitely forget PS and use Gimp.
