I am trying to move my Garmin Map Source information and 2009 map update info over to a new computer and having some trouble. It seems Garmin might not like you moving their program and updates from one computer to another.
Has anyone else done this? Did you have any trouble?
I have moved it several times over the years. I just use the CD/DVD? that came from Garmin and re-install it on my new machines. I then enter my unlock code for the maps. Everything works well.
I do know that I can only upload the unlocked maps to a maximum of 2 GPS units.
But just installing it and then running the unlock code works for me.

Refresh my memory... where are the unlock codes?
Are you talking about the Product Key?
Go to the Garmin site and register the GPS

They have made it awkward to do, but I had to do the same thing recently. My upgrade had expired, and I was migrating to a new computer, but after a phone call to customer service, they reset the expiration and I was able to download the upgrades and unlock codes.

It gets more complicated if you don't register, also if you download the map files from Garmin, make sure you make a backup and store those somewhere. you'll need them later.

If the old computer was XP or 2000 and the new one is Vista there is a compatibility issue. Vista requires a different version of MapSource and Garmin customer service will have to help you load it.
