By way of Pikes Peak.

Leaving on Saturday and am trying to make sure I am not overlooking anything. So last minute advice would be welcome.

I am also looking for anyone with knowledge of good roads in CO, Southwest SD, Nebraska, Kansas and OK. (have a few ideas already, but more is always helpful).

Think I am ready as far as gear and tools, excpet I might pick up a long chain lock for the bike this week, but not sure about that.

i'd love to know the route you are taking to pikes peak, i want to make a run up there on the KLR, from austin, via roswell, then up into the mountains, no interstates.

Unless you want the dirt road up Pikes peak, there is a much more beautiful (and higher) road up Mt. Evans just west of Denver.

The road from Loveland to Estes Park is great (34). It follows a creek through a canyon. If you do go close to Rocky Mountain NP, trail ridge road is beautiful. It is the highest continuous road in the US. Mount Evans is higher but it dead ends at the top. Old Fall River Road in Rocky Mountain NP is a good ride if you have a dual sport or don't mind a dirt road (it can be ridden with nearly any streat bike with only minor damage). It is oneway but joins Trail Ridge road at each end so you could do a loop ride.

67 from Woodland Park to Deckers and on to 287 is a nice road if you decide to go to Pikes Peak.
