I have decided to expand to a larger scope than just the Austin area. So Austin will be every other month and we will try to regionalize the other months (DFW/Huntsville/Tyler) to include more of the members in other parts of the state and give us a little longer ride every other month. I also added the Schoepf's Old Time Pit BBQ in Belton back to the list (I guess we can try it again) although I bumped it to a little later than before to try to bablnce out locations. The November date is a little early due to the fact that OU has no game that weekend and UT doesn't either, well they play Baylor

I thought the 9/10 date was Schoepf's Old Time Pit BBQ in Belton.

It hasn't been on the list for a long time. My wife and I stopped there some time ago and it was not good at all. I know that any place can have a bad day, but we didn't seem to find any redeeming qualities in that trip. None of the meat (brisket, ribs and sausage) was good, let alone special.
If there is enough call for it, we could add it back in, but I could also add The Hard 8 BBQ in Stephenville to the list, if that isn't too far for most. Post up other places and we can try them.

I'm telling you... McKenzie's or The Zion Baptist Church here in Huntsville are worth writing home about ;-) Both have ribs that are amazing.
Adios,
Sounds like fun to me. I've also heard the chuch is good BBQ.
What ever is decided upon let's make it a ride!

I'd like to make this run to Southside Market in Elgin on 7/16. I've been meaning to visit my dad's grave out at Laurence Chapel Cemetery in Beukiss, which isn't far away. I need to haul some big stuff up there though so I think I'll trailer the VFR up on Friday night and stay with my grandma in Taylor. I can then get up and linger around some of the backwoods roads and meet up with you all at lunchtime at Southside Market in Elgin and then use the rest of the day to visit with my dad.

Ok, so Elgin might be in the cards for me since it's at least East of Austin, thereby making just slightly closer to Houston. Besides, the ride out there and back this weekend wasn't really that bad.
I'll stay on the fence as a maybe until I know for sure and see about getting a new front tire on the Strom.

Wilber needs new shoes?
Yup. And when the sprockets come I need to get those on, and I'll need to bleed the brakes before too long, and I need to modify the bash plate to fit, and....
Anyone have a desire to tinker with my bike 'till it's done?

3 hours work....maximum. Well, I have no idea about the bash plate, but the rest is easy.

Is this BBQ run to Elgin still on?
I'm getting some F650 guys together for a ride that day and thought we'd make this part of the route if it's still happening. There will probably be at least three of us with a max of five.

Hey, Burleson has a great BBQ place up here in D/FW, called Old Town Smokehouse....the owners of the place ALSO have a malt shop right next door called, well, Old Town Malt Shop.
Come on up and try it! :-D

Yup, still on.
Bring your friends out and we'll all get to meet!
I'm still working on the details getting out there, but if anyone else from Houston is interested let me know and I'll try to firm up the plans a bit.

Are you sure about that location? I only know of one Southside Market in Elgin and it's on the west side of town on the south side of 290. Your map is showing it way east of town.
Here is the one I know. Of course Elgin isn't a huge place so we'll all eventually find it.

If the Southside Market in Elgin is that BBQ place I'm thinking of, I agree with Scott. I was unimpressed.
A few weeks ago I ate at Meyer's Smokehouse in Elgin. It was good. Prices were good.

Wish I could make this ride but my bike is down for maintenance.

I am not sure of the location, that is what came up when I plugged in the address kisted on their website. I have been by it, but I don't really remember if that is where it was at. Your map seems to be closer to what I (vaguely) remember. My S&T doesn't have it in the database, I guess yours may be a newer version.
Can anyone else confirm? I will go ahead and replace my map with yours.
Thanks.
John - My post was about Schoepf's in Belton, i have not been to the Southside Market yet. When any town comes up again, we might try a different place just for some variety.

Southside Market is on the south side of 290 on the West side of Elgin at the intersection of 95....The food is a little over rated but gets better depending on how hungry you are!!

Looks like we are probably in. Ellen had fun at the Blacks Run and said she might want to do this one also. Of course, Connor wants to go, he loves and BBQ (well actually, he likes any place with FOOD)

Well it looks we'll have five F650GS riders and one guy on a Valkyrie. He's joining us for the breakfast ride to Fayetteville but will making his way back to Elgin via the paved roads while the rest of us go in search of dirt.
1. Brewer90 (Joel)
2. iDood (Bill)
3. DAM (Darren)
4. Thumper (Michael)
5. Beltless (Mark)
6. FireF****** (Scott) on the pig
There is the potential of another Mike making the ride down from Dallas and joining us too. See everyone on Saturday.

The good news: We have a possible 6 Houston-area riders heading over to meet the Austinites on Saturday.
The other good news: Weather forecast calls for a high of only 88F.
The bad news: The weather forecast also calls for a 50% chance of rain.

Hey, who invited budzrex to this one???
Ok, I admitted already to being crazy, but I'm not stupid. I'm going to bow out for this one and see y'all for pie (hopefully) at the end of the month.
Be safe (and dry) out there!

Well, heck
Flash flood watch until this evening for basically the entire area so I think we are going to call it a rainout for us. Hope to catch up with y'all next month.
Be careful out there

I look forward to hearing how much it rained so I know I didn't make a mistake backing out on this one...
I backed out after looking at all the yellow and orange moving to the north. So far, I haven't seen a drop of rain. :angryfir:

We had a bunch down here and it rained pretty much the entire way up to Elgin. It was just very light in Elgin when I got there. Uberhawk and his family were the only others to show.
BTW - I caged it also, I needed to run some errands up north so I took the truck. I don't mind getting caught out in rain too much, but it was dumping down here when I left. I may be a glutton for punishment, but I am not stupid. So we had a motorcycle meet in the cages, oh well, we got to talk about his garage.

Call us stupid. Five F650GS's left my house at 7:00 to head to Fayetteville to meet another F650 rider and have breakfast at Orsaks. Then we were going to head back to Elgin for lunch with the gang.
It started raining on us just before Bastrop and we got totally soaked on the way to Fayetteville despite rain gear. We didn't finish with breakfast there until about 10:30 and headed back west towards Elgin - on county roads. Dirt roads that were now very muddy. It took us about three and a half hours of extreme fun in the mud to cover 90 miles but we made it to Southside Market for lunch. But it was 2:30 so we missed everyone.
If anyone wants the gps track shoot me a note. It was probably 50% dirt er mud.
iDood took a lot of pics so hopefully we can put a mini ride report together.
Here's proof we showed up.
