This past weekend I did a fairly big cook for my niece. About 4:30am, this guy decides to come over and check out what all the fuss is about. I tossed him a few strawberries and some sliced turkey which he promptly ate and was kind enough to let me take his picture. He was about five feet from me for this one.

I've got to do something with his eyes, but still a cool shot.

Thoughts? Comments?

Those taste pretty good if you cook them right.

Depends on where they live and what they eat. :eat:

I sure wouldn't eat the one that gets in my garbage. :puke:

:tab I think the eyes are kinda cool. I mean, these guys are mostly seen at night, and usually because there are lights pointed at them. So the eyes look "natural", hehe. Our neighbors have a HOARD of these guys living around their place. They come out and feed them EVERY NIGHT, cat food. It is not uncommon for 15-20 of them to be sitting on the neighbor's front porch growling at each other while stuffing their little faces.

We've named our back door racoon Rocky (thanks John and Paul). I am fairly certain that he/she does not have a hairball problem as IAMS hairball formula is what out there for the backyard kitty.

Tim-
How'd you do the eyes?

I played with PS but all I wound up doing was replacing the whole orange with a black. You seemed to replace the eye color AND keep the retna 'shine' intact. Very nice.

I had several that used to hang around here a while back , It seem's my dog was happy to share her food with them . After she passed I kept feeding them to get rid of the left over food . When the food was gone they got a little irriatated with me for not feeding them any more . I had to take a stick out the back door a couple times to swat them away . When one dug thru the floor of my house and had a litter of kits under my bath tub the war was on . I had to cut the outside wall off the house to get them out and seal the hole then I started setting a trap . Over a period of several monthes I trapped over 30 coons , 3 or 4 cats , half a dozen posum and one squirrel . The coons were relocated , the rest disposed of just depending how I felt that day . Me and the tree rat cussed at each other a while then I let him go . The coons are really good eating , I am just too lazy to clean them . SEYA

My mom-in-law raised one from birth! Bottle fed it & all. She named it "Bandit", & after a VERY LONG life (11 years), Bandit passed away & broke her heart to pieces.
Bandit's favorite snack was frozen green grapes, liked cheerios & dry cat food. He liked to be brushed, play w/kitty toys & enjoyed his daily walks on a leash! And wow! He was FAT!
She has wild coons tame enough to eat out of her hands, but there'll always only be ONE Bandit!

Only one I ever had was not very good.

We used to feed them at Lake Summerville when I was a kid and visiting my grandparents. We'd alway put the food on the end of a stick, though. You don't want to get those teeth in you, even accidentally.

Squirrel is supposedly much better than raccoon. I have never had raccoon personally, but I'm just hillbilly enough to try it.

I've had issues with those darn coons for years. Cats won't mess with them and all it takes is one to see the kitties use their door for them to get the message. Had a bike for sale a few years back, was talking to a guy interested in purchasing it, told him I would be gone a week on vacation. Coon family moved in and knocked the phone off the hook, guy got concerned and called the phone company, after finding the problem they informed him of the new residents. They were something else to evict. Luckily, possums are too dumb to figure out the kitty door.

The smart ones sneak in and chow down, then drink all the water set out for the cats, and vamoose, prompting my use of the live trap and relocation. Others can be pretty bold (or dumb).

That one didn't seem to respond too well to the broom, so I had to use a different strategy. Perfectly legal in this case.

I expect this thread to now disappear due to vulgarity or something, as the one about finding a live chicken in my yard did.

So I guess that second shot makes it a 'raccoon rodeo'?

Clever way to get the critter out.
