I guess I should point out that this is game day in Austin. The kickoff is at 2:30 which will tie up traffic from 11:00 until 8:00 or so. Look for ways around Austin if need be. The new 130 tollway will be the best $6 you ever spent if you planned on I-35 fron the north.

It is also a home game in College Station. Right now the game is scheduled for a 6 PM kick-off.

It has been YEARS since I went to a game at Kyle Field so I have no idea what the traffic will be like.

But it is something to consider in route planning.

Wow, the perfect storm.....t.u. in Austin and tamu in CS and a pie run in Kyle.

An update: Texas State in San Marcos has a home game that day as do the Baylor Bears in Waco.

The new 130 tollway will be the best $6 you ever spent if you planned on I-35 from the north.

only if you are a local native, they stick it to the tourist just passing through.
no where is there a sign stating the posted price on each check point is a minimum price and mark ups and shipping handling fees will apply to folks just passing through.

if you are looking for a smooth very lightly traveled piece of road to do a top speed run on, the 130 tollway is the place to go! when we went up it after the Ingleside pie run there was so little traffic it was spooky.

Well, there are three base prices. Toll tag, cash, or pay by mail (read the plate). Cash they consider the standard rate. Toll tag is a discount and pay by mail is a surcharge. You are right though that they don't advertise the fees well.

I am going to attend the game in College Station. I might consider running for pie before hand. I would be leaving from the west side of Katy for Kyle.

For those thinking of using the toll roads there is a rates chart for ya...

http://www.texastollways.com/austintollroads/img/rates.png

...and yes, very smooth, very quiet ride. You'll be dumped out at Buda on I35 (they have a new stretch not shown on gmaps) barely 2 miles north of Kyle

Note that some spots don't do cash. Then your at tag or mail.
Per their info, if you have a toll tag for any other Texas toll-road, it will charge on it just like one of it's own.

'Course that isn't too fun a run. 95 to 973 goes most of the same way with a little more scenery and fewer acres of concrete.

While we're on the subject; might was well put me down as one "yup". I'll be there unless there's flash-flooding / freezing or an F2 tornado / hurricane. :storm:
And that's quite a trick seeing as that's our 17th anniversary. We didn't have anything planned but she won't ride with me anymore. I'm working on her to try and get her there on 4 wheels. We'll see. :zen:

I will have to go with probable and a probable +1. I just have to figure a way to get from pie to football in time with stops to four corners of Austin along the way.

Chuck--
Please move J-Dawg and I to not attending. We will be picking his Versys up from the shop where it was being repaired.

See everyone in October.

Please put me down as a maybe for my first pie run. If I make it I should have at least one other rider with me.

Move me from a "maybe" to Probable (definite with conditions), as I am heading to Austin today on a 'scenic ride' and should make it to the Pie Run.
Thanks,

I've been watching the other thread - good luck with finding the problem.

Not sure how I missed this so far. I was looking at it going, "Man I've got a reception at 1600, so another Pie Run missed." Then I looked at the location and saw it was Kyle!

So I'm in like Flynn! Great weather, a weekend off and a Pie Run. I'm a happy camper.

For those coming to the Pie Run there is a pirate convention in town and they all ride HD. Use caution as they are known to ride side my side at speeds slower than the posted limit in very large packs. They try to distract you by having a half dressed pirate lady on the back but don't let them lure your attention away as they have been seen riding in a state that can be only described as a wobble. Sorry I can't give a more accurate description as they have all seemed to ban together in some sort of solidarity by wearing multi color bandana's to cover their true hair color. I can tell you however, black leather chaps are abundant.:rofl::rofl:

In all seriousness, there are an estimated 5000 Harley owners camped out in San Marcos and the surrounding areas and you will just have to trust me that they are everywhere.

Won't be able to make it this time - in-between eye surgeries (second surgery is Monday), so won't be riding for a couple more weeks yet... :-(

Hopefully see you in Ponder or Hutto...

What's up with the peepers Chuck?

Remember the 6 million dollar man? ;-)

I went with the standard 20:1 zoom & targeting reticle... :zen:

OK - the truth - cataract surgery - lens replacement. The right eye was done 2 weeks ago and tested 20-25 a week after surgery. I am not wearing glasses for the first time in almost 50 years! :sun: The left eye is still uncorrected but will get done Monday. Right now I have "hybrid" vision - nearsighted in one and farsighted in the other. My main concern is close-in vision since I have been nearsighted all my life. Having both done & adjusting together should be most of the solution. Off-the-shelf reading glasses may be the rest of it.

Sorry, probably more than you wanted to know...

Good deal. My mom had her's done a while back and is also glasses-free other than reading. Glad it wasn't anything serious. Well, time to go find and pack the liner. It is 36 degrees in Strawberry right now but the high is forecast to be 86 and 100% sunny. Should be a nice day for a ride. Maybe I'll get a chance to try out my new heated grips.
