I'm no expert, so take my observations as just that - something to think about for future assignments. I know I have learned a lot from critiques, experimentation and the pre-entry thread in the 14 assignments thus far.

Voni -
Looks like a great old dog who has probably shared a lot of great times with you. However, he looks like you just woke him up from a good nap and he's not quite ready to go have fun. The overhang (doghouse/picnic table?) on top of the picture is also a small distraction for me.

M38A1 -
Not part of the judging, but submitted for the sake of participation. Good colors/saturation and use of shadows/sun, but the picture looks blown out for grain with a lot of noise in there. The fence behind him is also a bit distracting. He does however have that attentative "Hey, what's next Dad?" look.

Jerry -
You must have setup a remote flash/canopy for this or you took your pooch to the Glamour Shots for Canines at the local mall. Spot on focus, nice depth of field and really good lighting on 95% of the shot, but I find his right side of the snout a bit dark in the shadows. If only his head was turned a few degrees to his left..... I waiver on the blue ottoman in the background...

47Wing -
Great color saturations with the afternoon shot - nice warm tones which I like. Pooch looks like he's had enough of the kids for the day but they're not done with him yet. I find the background a bit distracting with a lot of people behind the dog. The sun at your back put your shadow/outline square in the middle of the shot as well.

NitroRoo -
Excellent subject matter. Who can't resist a puppy? Nice composition and the paw over the tennis ball is a bonus. I like the contrast of the really bright neon ball against the rest of the neutral colors. However, the focus seems to be on the ball leaving the dog a bit soft, but I think it works for a puppy.

NitroRoo gets the win and a really close runner-up goes to Jerry.

Thanks to everyone for playing this round....

Nice pics, all. My personal favorite was Jerry's, simply because something about that shot dramatically anthropomorphizes the dog in my imagination.

Kudos to all of you. :thumb:
