What topics would y'all be interested in seeing taught?

If I establish a venue, would you be willing to present the class halfway between DFW, and HOU somewhere.
Lightroom is a good topic too.
I would have liked CS4 as well...I'll bookmark the thread though to see what comes up.

Sure would.....I am thinking about January (after everyone has gotten their new cameras from Santa Claus :lol2:)

I highly recommend Scott Kelby's books on CS4 to help you learn...also the Photoshop User TV podcast is a great source of info.

...maybe a bullet point on the 2x monthly photo assignments for practicing?
Any more thought on a January date? Between the DFW/HOU works for me

UTA Arlington offer a class on CS4 Photoshop, its enough to get a good start on it.
I even got my CS4PS with the student discount from Adobe, not the school

I'd like to see some intruction on highspeed photography.
I tried to take go-kart racing pics at my daughters b-day party this past Tuesday. Not a good shot in the bunch.

Didn't know that I was the hold up, sorry about that. I was waiting for you to put a date up. I already have plans for the weekend of Jan 23rd, 2010.
If there is enough interest, I would be willing to set up a venue (somewhere between HOU / DAL / SA) *Hearne, TX looks to be close to the middle by eye ball, but there are no hotels that I know of there. I have used a couple of places in Franklin, TX before.... JUST THINKING OUTLOUD.

I will rent a place for the day for us to get together.
Class Ideas, just from my wish list:
Post Processing
Flash (TTL/Remote, Exposure comp)
Metering (I so struggle with metering!)

How about Waco or Temple area? Seems a bit in the middle for everyone.
Just a thought but if we got 10-20 folks and we all stayed at same place, we could probably get one of their meeting rooms at a discount. Post a date Scott but I'm guessing if I get new employment in the next month, getting off for any date in Jan is not gonna happen unless I get the job that has weekends off.
Maybe we could cover Flash and speed photography in the morning and LR post process in afternoon?

Yeah post a couple pics. The go kart environment shouldn't be too tuff. High shutter speed with camera set in continous focus should work most of the time.
Might try panning for the frozen speed effect and then shoot the kart directly head on for more of the people pics.
Shift to a slower shutter speed and pan the kart for a speeding kart effect.

Temple is not a bad idea....
Hampton & Holiday Inn Express do give the meeting room free if you will confirm a sufficient number of room stays, I utilize them frequently for that reason. I didn't think about that aspect, as I didn't figure there would be 10+ willing to hotel it...
I still remember "painfully" driving from McAllen to Irving last time and am just being selfish. Figured I would bribe y'all by renting a banquet room / meeting room at a hotel or a civic center somewhere between your town and mine this go around. PLEASE don't feel obligated at all to tailor your plans around me. I want to attend, what ever the content ends up being, and am willing to assist where I can with logistics, but by no means am I expecting you to go out of your way to satisfy my selfishness.

OK...here is the date: 01/16/2010!!! It's a Saturday....and I am also off on Sunday so if we need to stretch it out a bit, we can.
We will plan on this one being an all dayer.

Moving to I35 is away from where I have offices. But that is not a big deal. I will reserve a room at a hotel and post it up her.
Saturday Jan 16th. I will also have the meeting room in your name. (don't worry, I will pay for it)

This was done for a friend's website...she is redoing it and needed new photos...saw some of my work and hired me...my first commercial shoot!! :eek2:
Part of her site will be marketing fitness equipment (kettlebells and crossfit stuff) to law enforcement/military so we knocked that part out last weekend. I will be doing some other shoots with "regular" people also.
Anyway...this shot was done with one off camera flash (a Canon 580EXII), fired through an octodome (eight sided soft box) and a reflector on camera left and right:
http://scottbromley.smugmug.com/Other/My-Smug-Mug/peacemakers-watermarked/706293647_XQosL-M.jpg
During the class we will go over how to set up for this kind of shot both in shooting it and in the post production (all done in LR2...expect for the poster stuff..that was done in Fotofusion)

OK...here is a tentative lesson plan:
Exposure (will be review for some of you)
Composition (again review) This will cover the classics "golden mean" "rule of thirds" and posing a person or group of persons
Break
I will do a portrait shoot using OCF and then show how I edit the shot to get a finished product...in this portion we will cover the use of flash, how to get the flash off of the camera, how I set up the portrait shoot using OCF and some other accessories (soft boxes for speedlights, umbrellas for speed lights and reflectors)
When I go in to editing we will cover Lightroom and PS3 (the tips I will show you can be used in any version of PS)
And how to use PS to effectively present your photos.
This will be a long day with a lot of info put out there.
]
Now...does anyone have anything else they would like to see taught? Brotha J...I bet we can diagnose and fix your issues from the track on the site of you ever get those photos up.:trust:
If not, I will cover panning and other tricks in the class.
Now...I need to start downloading 70gigs of raw photos from today's motor jock rodeo....shot for about 7 hours total and think that I ended up with somewhere over 1400 images  Gonna be fun to edit...and I have to get it done before I shoot a Benefit Golf Tournament on Tuesday!!!!

Lightroom is a good topic too.
This unskilled photog might benefit from anything photo-wise, so I'm watching as well. Not a fancy town of course, but if the participants are mostly DFW/Houston folks, Centerville is named that for a reason, haha. It is already a popular RTE for some because of Woody's places there. Not sure what hotels may be in town, but the ride there and back could be made interesting. Just helping to brainstorm and I am not a principal player in this meet.

So along the lines of Ford or Chevy, Canon or Nikon, which oil do you use and so forth..... Did you shoot RAW or .jpg? ;-)
.....looking forward to this session!

Final count was 2822 RAW images....which are importing into LR as I type...thought this would take all day but I had picked up some USB 2.0 card readers and they dumped 8G of images of off each card in like 10 minutes per card!!
If you attend the class you will find I prefer to shoot in RAW and have for several years...with LR2 or LR working with RAW images is very simple and back when I was shooting film I preferred slide film for the same reason I shoot in raw...sheer information.
The only pros that I know of that shoot jpeg are professional sports photographers due to the sheer volume that they shoot at each event, the higher speed (frames per second) you get with jpeg, and the minimal processing they do before sending their images to their editors.
Ok...enough evangelizing for now :eek2: :zen:

Came home today to a partially flooded house.....my bedroom and about a quarter of the living room.
Since i will be dealing with adjusters and contractors for the next week or so I will have to postpone the class.
I am thinking of a Saturday in Feb but will let everyone know later this month.

This is indeed tough news STScott (... Ever realize just how many Scott's there are here?)... Anyway... Thanks for calling me and and I wish you a speedy repair to your house and belongings.
As a side note, I just hung up with the hotel to cancel the rooms, the manager shared with me that one of the local hospitals in Belton also had pipe breakage last night, and that he was housing 25/30 of their patients, and care providing staff.

Good luck with repairs, Scott. Was this a burst pipe? :-(
