What: Farm-to-Market 335 is the westernmost of the popular "Holy Trinity" of Texas moto-roads. It is a curvy, dippy, certified hoot of a ride, and was voted the 3rd best road in the 2003 Ride Texas (http://www.ridetexas.com) readers' poll. 8)

The road, like the other 33x roads, is in generally good shape. There are a couple of bends that have a bit of rock strewn about, but this is the exception rather than the rule.

The distinguishing characteristic of 335 is its roller-coaster nature. The road follows the Sabine river for quite a while, and there is a nice series of swoops and crests.

As with 336, the northern portion of the route is up on a plateau, and fairly flat and straight, but the other sections are so much fun, it doesn't matter. :P

Be sure to look for the kangaroos on the east side about midway...

Where: FM 335 is in western Hill Country, just east of Rocksprings, between Barksdale and SR 41.

Designation: Farm-to-Market (FM) or maybe Ranch Road (RR) 335

Great work! 335 has always been my favorite of the "30 somethings".

And the kangaroos are an unexpected surprise. Last year we stopped right at that fence line to, uh...cool the tires  and after a few minutes somebody noticed the roos in the pasture. Not at all what you would expect to see.

My fav road of all time. Last trip out there was the first time I noticed a big old Roo must have been 6' tall sitting on his honches about 5 ft from the fence watching me with as much amazment as me watching him. There is much more then just roos out there. I know I saw peacocks (one outside the fence by the road), camels and some horny things I know not the name. The views are so good that you want to slow down but the road is so fun you have to speed up. I always stop at the river crossing and enjoy the quiet.

TimT,
Nice ride report on your link; and great pictures as well. Just curious, which motel did you folks stay at in Leakey?

Fast_Yellow,

Thanks!

I think it was the Frio Canyon Lodge. It's located at the crossroads of Hiway 83 and FM 337. It's catty corner to Frio Canyon M/C Stop. It's a VERY old western themed ranch style hotel. The staff (husband and wife owners) were friendly and helpful. The room rates were a little high for what it was and the amenities were sparce. No phones, every room has satilite boxes but none of the work. It's not like I really needed it, I was just in the room to sleep and clean up to go back out and ride, ride, ride.

BuddhaTim - that route looks like a lot of fun, and just got added to my list of "must ride" locations when I get back from Iraq.

I should be back stateside mid January - I probably won't be riding in Texas again until March at the earliest though.
