Howdy,
:tab On a fluke, I stopped in at the CycleShack in Conroe this weekend. I was trying to make it to the Cycle Gear down by Greenspoint but never got that far. While at CycleShack, I noticed they had some of their dirt boots on sale.
Alpinestar Tech 8's $269.99
Alpinestar Tech 6's $233.99
SIDI Flex Force $299.99
I was shocked as these prices are lower than most any I could find on the net. After trying on all the above in various sizes, I finally settled on the SIDI's. They have a hinged ankle which makes the boots easier to walk in. Also, with my wide feet, they were the only ones that did not cause sharp pain when I walked hehe. So I snagged a pair. I'll get to test them out this weekend.
I don't know how long the sale will last.
Nice bikes of interest on the floor:
New DR 650 for $5K
03 XR650R for $5400
Several of the various incarnations of the DRZ400
Several Stroms of 650 and 1K sizes
And a crapload of KTM's
Adios,

I've been looking at the Sidi boots, and a couple of others. I've been using a pair of tech 8's for a while now but they are too stiff for me.
Great ankle protection and shin protection but I fear that stiff ankle with no flex will just transfer force to my knee in a get off, and coming from wearing more of a work boot I find the lack of flex to impede shifter and brake feel.
I like the tech 8's on the occasions I'm riding some pretty tough rocky single track, but that's a small part of my riding.
There are some trials boots out there that I hear are more of a mid point on flexibility between the hard core mx boots and plain high calf work boots/linemans boots. Might be worth a look.

Find me a place that has big guy sizes so I can try some on!!!
Doesn't anybody stock boots for someone with a 14 foot???

Those are good for touring but not serious offroad riding. They won't provide enough lateral ankle support. 10-95, someone has to make them because I have seen some BIG dudes with BIG feet stomping around in those kinds of boots ;-)

TM, my foot is kind of funny sized. I don't buy any shoes unless I can try them on. Same for gloves.
If anyone comes across a store that stocks m/c stuff for big guys give me a shout. Cycle Gear doesn't even come close to my size, Lone Star sometimes has stuff but usually not boots. I'm kind of lost here.

:tab Call the guys at Cycleshack North in Conroe. Ask for Steve. Tell him I sent you. He's a great guy and very patient with stupid questions :-P If I recall correctly, they may be able to get the boots without you having to commit to buying them. This way you can try them on. Of course, I would think they'd expect you to buy the boots from them if you liked them instead of getting them off the net somewhere. At their current prices, this is not a big deal though.
:tab If that does not work, try posting over on the Texas Offroad Network fourms (http://www.texasoffroad.net/home/ka.php).
:tab I can relate to the width issue, just not the jolly green giant size :-P

They are waterproof. You can get them with different soles also...either smooth MX style or a standard sole making it easier to walk. I've got the standard sole boots.

I might have to look at a pair of those. I assume they are more flexible than something like the tech8 with all that thick plastic bracing.
I'm still looking for long sized goretex over the boot pants as well.

Adios,
Did you happen to see if they had any good prices on A-star Tech 10's?

:tab I did not see any Tech 10's at the dealership. However, Cycle Gear had some for aroudn $350 I think.
:tab I also stopped by the BMW dealership in the Woodlands. They had the BMW dirt boots there for $275 +15% off. I got to looking at them and they look pretty well made and had good ankle flexibility front/back but still stiff side to side. The latches looked very sturdy as well. I would be willing to bet that someone is making them for BMW and BMW just tacks their name on them

I looked at tech8 and a lot of other boots. I had to remind myself that I'm not riding MX or SX so I don't need something super stiff. I need something flexible enough so that if I wanted to do a bit of hiking or had to climb out of a creek bed ;-) I would be able to without too much effort. Stiff boots are great if you're going banzai on a MX track taking big jumps. For single track, fire road, desert running, a somewhat less stiff boot is probably the best...IMHO
And...from what I've found out, the MSR ISDE pants will fit over the boots.
Oh yeah...they're cheap compared to MX/SX boot too!!

:tab I found several places that had the MSR ISDE pants for under $100. They come highly recommended. The same is true for the Moose Expedition pants. I think you can find the MSR pants at MotorcycleCloseouts.com.

I picked up a pair of lightly used AlpineStars Tech 6 boots from a guy at work for 50 bucks. They are pretty heavy duty and surprisingly comfortable on my KLR adventures.

:tab Well, after a week of romping around the rough Rocky Mountains, I can report that the SIDI Flex Force boots are exceptionally comfy and tough.

These are the boots I just bought. I haven't had time to really put them to the test yet though.

I got a pair of the Sidi Discovery's also. Took 'em on a little DS jaunt a couple weeks ago and I have to say I'm very happy with them. I've used MX boots up till now and they just don't afford much comfort, and flexability. If I was doing big jumps I probably would stick with the MX boots. The Discovery's are more then adequate for trail riding though.

I just bought a pair (two pairs really, to find the best fit) of these today myself.
I wish they had malleolus (sp?) protection, though...
$250 at Newenough.com. Don't tell me if you paid less because I'll be pissed...

Sidi is very strict about having their dealers adhere to their MAP pricing. I doubt anyone sells them for less then $250
