Just in from the rst1000.org mailing list 8) :
OK folks, I had to change the date because of a huge Harley Davidson
rally so we are all set for the first ever Futura Lone Star Rally in Boerne,
Texas on May 23-25, 2003.

Rally headquarters will be the Boerne Vistro located at 911 S. Main St.
This is a combination Sunday House and restaurant. They have a limited
number of rooms there so call and make your reservations early.

There is no rally fee, no rally tee shirts and no rally pins.

You are responsible for all your own expenses; meals, rooms, dancing
girls, gasoline and traffic tickets.

There is a banquet (Dutch treat) planned for 7:30 PM Saturday May 24 at
Boerne Vistro where we can all tell vivid tales about how we traversed
the beautiful Hill Country roads like Kenny Roberts or Gary Nixon.

For those of you not familiar with the Hill Country there will be
suggested ride sheets with maps.

An informal happy hour is being set up for Friday evening for those who
are interested. More info to follow.

We will be doing our best to shake down dealers and Aprilia for some
door prizes. No promises but we are trying.

Please drop me a note if you are planning on attending so I can let the
restaurant have a number.

This event is open to all Aprilia riders (and even Ducati riders if
they are willing to buy a round at the bar.) :)

Other motels in the area are:

Key to the Hills Motel
1228 S. Main
Boerne, Texas
830-249-3562

Holiday Inn
35000 I-10
Boerne, Texas
830-249-6800

Best Western
35150 I-10
Boerne, Texas

I'll see about getting all this info up on the web as soon as I get
caught up with the Waltz.

Look forward to seeing everyone.

Howdy,

If all goes well, I will be running a tour in Arkansas that weekend I think. That is the weekend of Memorial day right?

Adios,

OK, this extraordinarily tiny event is fast approaching, and I'm wondering if folks can recommend any particular roads/sights/restaurants/etc. that I shouldn't miss while in the Boerne area...

I know about 335/336/337. Having never done 335 and 55, that's definitely in the cards; I'll probably have to suffer 337 to get over to that area ;) .

I'll also wanna take 16 between Medina and Kerrville, having not hit that, either.

I've been to the Lone Star Motorcycle Museum, and will probably visit them again, if they're open; I'd like to do a DynoJet run to compare it with the Eddy-Current results I got from AF1 Racing in Austin.

Anyway, does anyone have any suggestion on nice sweepers, decent stopping places (i.e., restaurants), etc. for this coming weekend?

BTW, even though this is billed as a Futura-only thing, I think that was just an attempt to get a bunch of RSTs together. Everyone's welcome to come on down and chuckle at my attempts to Keep Up with whomever is in the group.

adTHANKSvance. :)

Run FM 470 to Tarpley. Right after you cross a little bridge in town, there is a General Store on the left. In the parking lot is a little wooden shack. I forget the name of the place, but the food is to die for!! Expect to spend about $10 per person and make sure you are really hungry because the portions are large. The quality of this food blew us away! You can sit under the huge oak trees at picnic tables while you eat. If you can possibly fit anymore in you after your meal, try their Italian Creme cake dessert... mmmm... Just thinking about this place is making me really hungry!

After dinner and a rest, keep heading West on FM 470. The stretch from Tarpley to FM 187 is great. Lots of really nice sweepers and elevation changes. Right up your alley ;-)

Thanks, Scott, I recall you going on about this place in your recent hill country trip report (which I'll be rereading, of course :) )....

Edit: Hmmm, looking at the Gazetteer, I realize that I've actually taken 470 from 187 to 16, right past Tarpley. It was in a good rain, but you're right, it was fun. I'll have to actually stop at Tarpley this time. :)
