This was sent to me and STScott's lightbox recommendation got me wondering about their use. This guy is pretty amazing in his work. Thoughts?

The really shallow DOF is what clued me in.

Yep... you can tell by the paint on the cars, edges of streets, minor details, etc. but very interesting. I might start working on something similar to give it a try.

No trash or oil spots or things like that. Fantastic stuff though. I can't image the effort it takes to do a job like that.

Never trust a guy named Michael Smith.... that's what I always say.

Excellent use of forced perspective and digital editing. I did a similar college project using model WWII-era bombers and fighters. I'll see if I can find the tape and put it on YouTube.

Beautiful work on the models and the photography. There are clues there that it's not life-size, but excellent nonetheless.

No trash or oil spots or things like that. Fantastic stuff though. I can't image the effort it takes to do a job like that. That was my thought. Especially when I saw the roof of one of the buildings behind the sign. Way way way too squeaky clean. Excellent model building and photography.

Man! My hat is off to him for the dedication it takes for that hobby. So real. And, the cars are back in my days also which even adds points for me. My First car which was given to me by my Grandpaw in '58 ( think ) was a '48 Plymouth which I traded for a '56 Harley 165, my first motorcycle. My Next car was a '54 Ford in '64 when I was in the Marines stationed in Long Beach, Calif.

Being a model railroader, I really like what he does.

:tab Having spent hours looking at railroad shots of model layouts and admiring the insane details, but never acquiring the knack for the modeling despite much effort, I can really appreciate the skill that goes into those sets. I love the use of real backgrounds blended with the models without resorting to photo chopping. His eye for lighting and perspective is just really amazing. Not too mention he just has a really cool car collection!

This is some of the most amazing photography and staging I have seen of models and such. I've always loved building models and collecting die cast cars/trucks. This gives me some ideas for some future fun.

Take a look at the rest of his Flickr stuff. Pretty cool.
