Haven't really looked at the elevation part recently, but if I remember correctly, it seemed to be right when I ran up Diamond Head last year. One inportant thing is to have it mark at the correct intervals. When i did Diamond Head (link below), I still had it set to mark every 100 meters, so it didn't mark the correct path. The slower you go and the more changes of direction (such as a trail), the shorter the interval.
