I consider the Fort to be the 'gateway' to the legendary FM33X's. From Ft Clark, up 674 to Rock Springs or 334 to Camp Wood, Brackettville is a good starting or ending point.
Ft Clark is an old retired, renovated cavalry fort in EWCT off of US90. The Fort has a lot of history dating back to the Native Americans that camped there for generations. There is inexpensive (comparatively) lodging in the hotel (remodeled old barracks), a very nice RV campground with facilities as well as a more primitive campground by Las Moras Creek with shower facilities. There is a restaurant back by the 18 hole golf course as well as several in town.
Ft Clark is motorcycle friendly. Once a year in March, there is a motorcycle/car show sponsored by the Southern Cruisers during Ft Clark days.
Come on down, it's worth the drive!

I've always wanted to see the Alamo, that John Wayne built to make that grand movie, The Alamo, in 1960.

Hi Willie,
I have been there. It's interesting, they have the little shoot-em-ups sometimes there like they do in Old Tuscon. There've been lots of movies shot there, the most recent was Lonesome Dove. Nothing but a few commercials lately, tho.

Willie, Stephen Slisz and I stopped at the Alamo Village coming back from Big Bend in Oct. '05...some pictures of the sets are at http://bylaw.smugmug.com/gallery/286431#12632212. We expected to be there an hour at most...after about 2 1/2 hours we decided we'd better leave before it got dark.
Be advised that there is a fairly long gravel road leading into the sets...it's not that bad if you keep yer speed up. :zen:

Yeah, I'm a little behind on answering, too
There are some mild trails on the Fort. Some trees are down that make it a little more interesting thopugh. It is a good semi easy 1.5 hour ride around the Fort.
