View Full Version : Evacuation congestion in B/CS gets worse
TAMU has rescheduled Saturdays game to THURSDAY 9/22
And now FOX has waffled on if they want to send their trucks in to film.
Everyone evacuating planning on going thru the Hwy 6/290 area towards B/CS prepare for looooong lines. Bring patience, your filled gas cans from the lawn mower along, as well as food, coolers of water & drinks, and lots of extra patience. The traffic is going to be horrible. My prayers are with you all.
Already early today it took friends 5+ hours to go 90 miles from Houston to College Station.
Take care everyone,
Ash

At 1 am the West Loop heading north was wall to wall (real walls because of the construction) cars from Westheimer on and at what appeared to the casual observer (me) to be a dead stand still. I could afford to be casual because I was headed south.
My guess is that these are the people taking the 288/610/290 evacuation route and it is like that for a long way out 290.

My sister-in-law left the 290@Barker-Cypress area at midnight, and just got into Round Rock. :-|
Traffic on 290 still seems a tad heavy (http://traffic.houstontranstar.org/layers/getcam.aspx?camnum=416).

Bill, you're absolutely correct. I was in that line at about 10:30 last night but once you got past the 290 split there was very little traffic on BW8. What I should have done was take Gessner north to BW8 and then jumped on it going east from there.

my mom just left out (around 7)...
she was talking about taking gessner out to 290..I might call her back and tell her to do that...

Highways 359, and 83 were backed up for miles and I think 59 was as well. At least that was as of ten am.

Gessner does not go through from 290 to BW8 . Fairbanks nHouston or Windfern will. I tried to pick up a few things this morning. All north and west bound roads I saw were gridlock . I had to go off road to get home , bayous ditches and old trails through the woods I havent been on in years . SEYA

Umm, why don't they do the right thing and just reschedule the flippin game for later in the season??
If where the game is being held is on one of the evacuation routes, do they honestly think people are going to stop by and do a little tailgating and see the game while looking for shelter?
Stupid if you ask me..
The NHRA has postponed the Nationals at Ennis this weekend because of the hurricane, which was smart of them :

Meanwhile out in Lufkin...
I've been listening to my police scanner.
- Stations are out of gas.
- Stores are running out of basics and batteries
- Schools are shut down
- All our shelters are full
- Ambulances are responding to heart attacks about every 30 minutes
- National Guard is moving into Lufkin
- Fender benders are resulting in fist fights
- Weapons caches from PD's down south are being escorted here for storage.
- PD is requesting HAM operators to set up at each shelter because phone lines are becoming unstable.
Guess it's time to board up my windows and mount my .50 cal on the roof.
I promise not to fire on anyone with a 30-pack of Miller under each arm. All others, stay away.
I'm busying myself doing internet research on which big screen television I will snag from Best Buy when the lights go out. http://bestbuy.com

I'm busying myself doing internet research on which big screen television I will snag from Best Buy when the lights go out. http://bestbuy.com Hmmm... so I guess I don't want to discuss our security status with YOU, huh? We did make every effort to thwart the efforts of miscreants such as yourself before we left last night.
:p
I will tell you that when we asked why we didn't board up the front windows we were told that the glass we use in the front of the stores will withstand more than any sheet of plywood could handle.
We're doing conference calls 3 times a day to get status reports on the storm, stores, people, roads, etc. We have a web site just for employees, store specific info phone numbers for the employees, HR command center staffed with district and regional HR folks to handle after-storm issues, GMs have access to funds to support any employees with financial needs, etc, etc, etc. The company learned a lot from Katrina where we had about a dozen stores out of commission. We're talking about 25 here and we've got our hands around it.
Oh, and all the big screens were moved to the top shelves, so if you do manage to gain access to the building you'll need to use the hydraulic lifts to get to the TVs. And since we took the keys to the lifts home with us it might be a little hard to make them work.

My Rita(not the storm) and I left for lake Charles last night to gamble a little. It took 2 .5 hrs from Conroe via 105 and I10. We left there this morning due to the evac for south of I10. We got home in 4.5 hrs. First let me say we are **** lucky second all that time chasing aroung east Texas on a bike paid off. I was able to meander around back roads and avoid the lines and traffic. Agian we were extremly lucky and it was a cool adventure with my best friend (MS RITA).

PS We won about 300.00

That glass will not withstand 2,800 feet per second of full-metal-jacket Social Justice from my AR-15!
Time for some wealth re-distribution for the disenfranchised, disadvantaged, and oppressed like me! We're taking it Baby! :D

I'd bet money that a slow heavy .45-70 would be more effective, though.

Actually for penetration on something as dense as tempered glass or steal velocity give the best penetration.
Now projectile weight and high velocity does the best every time.
Unless you have a extremely heavy projectile. But in many cases openings such as doors and windows are not the easiest entry point.
One good city buss right through the wall at about 40mph then you have something to hall you stuff away in.
