I'd hate to see this turn into a "who makes the best" thread, BUT Dodge Rules  :chug: I have owned nothing but Dodges except (1) GMC, and I can safely say the Dodges I have owned have gave me mile after mile of problem free riding.
1. 69' Dodge Dart 150K on the original engine & I raged it the last 25K
2. 84' Dodge PU - I admit it is ugly, but another 150K problem free
3. 90' GMC - 60K not many problems, but wouldn't pull a sick hoar off the (well you know)
4. 94' Dodge PU - 75K Just got tired of White, but 65K problem free miles.
5. 97' Dodge 1 ton - 195K & counting problem free!
6. 97' Dodge Stratus (wifes car) 75K had some computer problems at 30K, but nothing more

Since gas prices have constantly increased I have stopped driving the 1 ton daily & converted to a Honda Civic. I just feel that everyone has there favorite brands as w/ everything. Just bad-mouthing another even in jest has started some pretty intense arguments w/ me :angryfir:

Dodge makes great engines and such, but through their history, none of their vehicles have really grabbed my attention besides their Hemi (426 Hemi, that is) powered offerings of the 60's and maybe the Viper.

Not trying to start any battles or flame wars here, but I have a few favorites... I've owned 3 Honda motorcycles and all have been good to me with the exception of one design flaw with the Interceptor 500. Had I taken the proper measures to rectify the problem before it ocurred, it could have been avoided.

The VFR and the CR500 are great. I only got rid of the CR because I lack the super-human ability to tame it.

I had a Suzuki Quadracer 250 that was a lot of fun, and for being the first racing four-wheeler, it was built pretty well.

For the rest of the four-wheeled world, I own a Ford and a Chevy. The Ford has 165,xxx miles on the original engine, trans, etc. It has served me very well and will be rewarded for its good service with a fresh crate engine and a paint job when I finish school. I'm sure someone will pipe up with the comment that only a Ford mechanic can keep a Ford running or something fo the sort now...

And maybe that's why the Chevy doesn't run and sit in the garage waiting for me to finish school. Or maybe it's that the little Tim the toolman Taylor inside me said big blocks are better than small blocks without first considering how much more they cost...

Everyone has their likes and their dislikes. As long as it has the go to match the show, I'm happy. :-D

My Lamborghini Murcielago gave me ZERO problems. Of course, you'd expect as such from a $275,000 vehicle. I ended up selling it because it was underpowered so I bought a Chevy Silverado Extended Cab instead. Much better!

Well I have a 2000 Dodge Avenger ES and am totally satisfied with it. I also have a 1999 MB ML 320 that is probably the best vehicle that I have ever owned. Fantastic riding sport utility.

As for FORD....I like Farm Or Ranch Designed. That F150 doesn't outsell the others for nothing!

At one time, I was a Ford hater. I even considered taking my '66 mustang and putting a small block chevy engine in it. I helped a friend to do just that and he had a **** of a car.

Then I graduated from school. Bought a brand new chevy silverado pickup. 40,000 mile later, I traded the *** in on a Ford 3/4 tone diesel. I drove it for 212,000 miles. Not completely trouble free, but a lot better than the Chevy I got rid of. I finally got tired of the truck and wanted more room for the kids.
Bought a 'used 96 F250HD crew cab. It has just under 170,000 miles on it. I have put 150,000 of those on it. Once again, not completely trouble free. I just had the glow plugs and related harness replaced. Was not cheap. But, it is the first major work I have had to do to it. Tows a sailboat between Houston and Florida nonstop at speeds exceeding the posted speed limit with no problem.

That is my $0.02.

First of all Ford rules.

Secondly, wouldn't it be more enjoyable to sale he boat from Houston to Florida :-D

I've got a Dodge minivan. I was pretty upset when the transmission went south at 75K miles, exactly when everyone said it would. Dodge (well Daimler-Chrysler) did fix it for the cost of labor, though.

I guess I shouldn't complain, it's got 123K on it now.

My best car so far has been our Accord. It's had a few niggling problems with the EGR valve or whatever, but otherwise it's just maintenance and go.

The Futura's got a bit of, er, character, but it's so much fun when it works that I don't care... :-D

Depends on the boat and the weather. I have hauled a Corsair F28R to Florida three times for the National Championships. The boat is pretty light for true blue water sailing. Plus, it is pretty small below.

But to really answer your question, sailing there would have to be more fun than dragging a boat across Lousiana.

If you know where the drive-thru daiquiri shacks are, the trip is a lot more tolerable.

Unfortunately, I've never had very good luck with General Motors or Ford vehicles, and never owned a Dodge product. OTOH, Toyotas and Nissans have proven to be pretty durable, and I'm seriously considering the new Titan extended-cab p/u as my next vehicle. 8)

Yeah, I was kidding, it would proably be a decent sail if you have the time, but it would have to be a boat somewhat made for the trip.

Boy, you aren't kidding. There is a really nice, tight little race track halfway between Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Getting there is miserable...especially on I-10 where the "bump-bump" frequency of the truck is off from the "bump-bump" frequency of the trailer and the two just feed off each other. Aaaaaargh! Brutal, brutal trip, and getting back is worse because you're dreading it!

Howdy,

:tab I love this kind of discussion. As if BEST could ever be quantified objectively!? :? I drove a FORD van into the dirt. It had a 400ci engine and was geared really low. It got ten miles to the gallon, period. I had all kinds of problems with it: rust, electronics, rebuilt engine, etc,... But some of the best High School aged memories involve that van

:tab Next I got a Toyota SR-5 pickup. I racked up 200K miles on it before the abused transmission finally came apart and I sold it to some guy that runs them down South of the border for resale. The air conditioner always leaked freon. It was woefully underpowered. The electronic brains box fried twice at the most inopportune times while sitting in Los Angeles traffic :x It leaked somewhere and after a good rain there might be a few inches of standing water in the floorboard that would slosh back and forth when I accelerated and stopped. It had a very peculiar funk to it.

:tab I replaced the SR-5 in '96 with a '92 4Runner that had about 75K miles on it, nothing for a Toyota! It was the vehicle I had dreamed of for sometime. It was jacked up slightly with 31" X 11" tires, fully loaded, 3.0 liter engine, 4WD 5 speed. I loved it. It got crappy mileage, around 15mpg on a good day. Pulling an empty single axle utility trailer it could barely manage 70mph on the open highway and the mileage dropped to about 11mpg!! Again, woefully underpowered. Around 85K the head gasket let go and fragged the engine block. Six weeks later they finally get it fixed under warranty. Sold it and bought the Saturn.

:tab The Saturn has been a very practical car in every sense of the word. It gets 30 mpg all the time. It has had few if any problems that were not quickly and cheaply fixed by the dealership. I put oil and gas in it and just drive the snot out of it. However, it does nothing to inspire any kind of pride in ownership, it is just transportation.

:tab Beth had a Honda CRX Hatchback that she put about 150K miles on in twelve years. It ate mufflers until we put a stainless muffler on it. It got about 48-50mpg. Had no power to speak of. Was small and cramped. Utterly reliable. Boring. Sold it in less than one week for full asking price without even a test drive. They are highly sought after for some odd reason.

:tab Pops had a big Dodge RAM Diesel Truck. Noisy and smelly. Rode really rough. Was loud inside. Got not so good mileage. Rear differential went South on us because of pulling a simple RV camper. Traded it in on another bigger and better Dodge. Well, not really much better  Just bigger. Finally he bought the Ford F250 crewcab. I love it. It is far more comfortable than the Dodges, gets better mileage (15mpg pulling five bikes on an 18 foot trailer at 80mpg), is quieter, and just all around seems a better package. I hear the new Dodges are supposed to be sweet though.

:tab All of my GM/Chevy experience was in the mid eighties and they were complete and total crap. Everything fell apart on them. They rattled excessively. Hopefully, they have improved!

:tab Bikes are the same way though. For every person you find that loves Hondas, you'll find someone that would only own a Ducati, or BMW, or... They are all wonderful bikes in their own way. To say one is the BEST seems a little absurd. To say you have a favorite makes perfect sense.

Except my Futura is the BEST.

Now, if they only made it with 4 cylinders! And it looked more like a Tuono!

With insurance rates like a r1150gs.

Maybe with a super model on the back.

Wait, I must have been drinking. Did I say that?
