What is the most usual and significant reason that you ride a motorcycle????
We all have more than one reason to ride but here, choose the most important reason. You can vote for more than one option but please limit your response to a maximum of two choices.
Don't vote on the way you're feeling this week but rather consider at least the past year.

I ride because there is extreme pleasure in cornering on a motorcycle. If there were no corners, I would not own a bike. The feeling you get in the pit of your stomach as you identify a decreasing radius corner and instinctively lean the bike more while keeping the gas constant = Pure Nirvana 8-)

I tend to like sports such as motorcycling and sailing where both intellectual and physical skills are required, all levels of ability can participate, where each individual can continue to improve his skills for a lifetime and where the reward, the sense of satisfaction when improvement is reached, is worth the effort. I'll never be Valentino Rossi, but I can continually improve technique, speed focus.

The feeling of freedom to just go where ever, when ever I want. I get this feeling on my bicycle and even more on my motorcycle. I don't experience the same felling in a cage. :)

No other type of vehicle that I've tried is so totally involving as a sporting motorcycle. The motorcycle becomes an extension of your body in a way that a car or boat can't replicate. A hang-glider or aerobatic plane are the only other vehicles I can imagine that might provide a similar quality of experience. On certain twisty roads, when everything is working right, the bike becomes almost invisible beneath me and it feels like I'm flying just above the surface of the road. Nothing else comes close to that marvelous, intoxicating sensation.

I ride because riding is fun. It's also good for the environment (excluding those who polute it with excessive noise  ) and saves energy and money.

the relaxation of the single-mindedness so important to technically sound and safe riding.
I think this best describes me....though there were a few there that would match me as well...lol

Flying without the bike is highly overrated... :-|

You gotta make a choice or two.

For me personally, there is no one or two reasons that stand out from the rest, and there are numerous other reasons not listed ;-)

How about just the joy of riding a bike. I have always enjoyed going places, but never so much as going to the same places on a bike.
How about just the joy of riding a bike.
Me too. May be reminiscent of the freedom of a bicycle as a kid. Dunno for sure. I flew simple fixed wing for several years and riding a mc seems much like that as well.

To me motorcycling is a hobby, an activity for enjoyment. I like the power of the bike, the cornering challenges, and just the being in the elements. The experience of a motorcycle cannot be duplicated in a car, not even in a Porche. In a car you are in a capsule, insulated. In a motorcycle you feel the wind, smell the odors, and with the right bike, tremendous power at your right hand. All for a fraction of the cost of a car. I was hooked 40 years ago, and that itch never went away.

Far be it from me to nag but.........................

Darn, that's awfully complicated Scott.
Besides, I can make some differentiation for you by selecting several of the listed reasons as being non-applicable to you. So, work backwards if you want. Oh, and don't worry - "There is no 'right' answer".
..................................................
"The joy of riding".
Sure, but the question remains......what makes it a joy???

My perscription for zoloft ran out and I find that it limits the voices in my head from saying bad things.

I don't see any that don't apply?
While I ride my ride, I still obviously look at how others ride and seek to improve my riding. I guess technically that is not competition as in racing, but it is still trying to do better than others in skills.
As far as taking pride in my "significant customization"... Well, hehe, I would say my bike has been somewhat customized ;-)

You gotta make a choice or two....
Please remove the unoriginal "all of the above" option....
Please refrain from using it if it is still there....
I ride to escape the rules.

there is no better way to travel and see the sites(when you slow down).
the most states I have been to in one ride is about 26. so far I have only ridden in 50 states and about half of Canada and top of Mexico and a little bit in Spain.
in the short time I've owned the FJR it has been to the east coast, west coast, Mexico border and Canada border.
I enjoy long and short trips but a lot of it is the folks that I ride with on most of the trips.
it is also doing things that most folks don't or won't do.

I didn't see a choice for "The voices tell me to ride; ride like the wind". Must be late life or something. I have told She Who Must Be Obeyed, that I would never buy a bike, again. That my experience when I was 18-19 trying not to run into pink haired cagers making sudden lane changes and stops was enough. Then our daughter starts talking about a bike to commute and now both she and I ride. SWMBO won't ride until I get the HD trike with the Two-up configuration. That means a lot of solo!
;-)
And I do enjoy slipping up on my placed geocaches and trying to see why they keep disappearing.
