My riding buddy Rob (Leo7x24) and I enjoyed a Sunday ride thru the changing tree colors of North Texas around DFW.
What: 3 hour loop in Northeast Texas, starting from Allen/Plano. Nice fall colors, little traffic and good roads. Luella has a small restaurant/gas station frequented by riders. It was closed on Sunday afternoon. 697 is nice and so is 272.
Where: See map below and attached GPS file
Designation: Two-lane country roads, mostly.

Dallas has more of the "change of seasons" than Houston area. Arkansas is especially nice. Several years back, I went to Costa Rica on vacation and noticed that some of the scenery there looked similar to parts of Arkansas...aside from the volcanoes. ;-)

I will have to give this a shot. I am planning the texoma run ( http://www.bikerroads.com/rides/texas/texomarun/index.htm ) from the Biker Roads website this weekend.

Just got back from making this loop! :bigokay:
It is a great ride, especially if you live in Plano, Allen or McKinney.
FM 697 is an great run!
It took me 4 hrs. but I got lost a couple of times and put some extra miles in for that. I dont gave GPS and had to do it the old fashion way of looking at maps.
I had 4 trouble spots in getting lost.:help:
1) Right out of the gate, I assumed  that they were all FM roads. The turn off FM1461 is on to RD 166 (small street sign).. did a couple extra miles here.
2) In Weston, could not fnd FM3356 .. guessed correctly taking FM 455 east. I used a few minutes here rolling dice.
3) Made a wrong turn on to FM 902 thinking it was Hwy 11.. Just a few extra miles here.
4) THIS WAS THE WORST.. :headbang: In Randolph, you are to take FM 896 off of Hwy 11. I was half way to the next town (4 miles) before going back sure I missed it. Got back to Randolph no sign of FM 896. Took another chance an took Business 121 and low and behold .. FM 896. :biggun:
It still only took 4 hrs... so I recomend it!
I made a MS Word doc with all the turns so I can do it again!
Would attach it here but it wont let me.

Bill, glad you enjoyed the route, and sorry about the trouble. I could have provided you with route sheets... oh well, next time. I emailed them to you for future reference.
I am new to GPS and I love it - got a refurb 2610 and it's terrific!
