Is it safe to assume that this place only serves pie?? Don't get me wrong, I love pie but I usually prefer to eat my pie with a big cheeseburger.

I remember seeing someplace on the sqare in Blanco a few times that looked like a Koffee Kup type of place. If I remember correctly, thermalser and some others stopped there on their way back to Houston on the April Hill Country Ride.
Here is a list of places in Blanco according to hillcountryvisitor.com (http://www.hill-country-visitor.com/default.asp/city/2/category/Dining)
Here is a mini-review of one of them that I found online.
Hard Scrabble Café
323 Main St., Blanco, (830) 833-4350 (OOT) The living and the dining are both easy in this rustic restaurant that features sandwiches and salads at lunch, steaks crowned with blue cheese and chicken covered in brie and spicy apples for dinner. (Reviewed 4/11/03) $-$$. Lunch: Fri.-Tue. Dinner: Fri.-Sat. Credit: Most major. Casual. Reservations recommended for dinner.

Gotcha added Will.
Looking for a shortcut, 1431, then in from Marble Falls. Anybody know about taking these alternates to 281?
Is it worth taking the sideroads Dead Man's Hole Rd, CR 401, CR 304, CR 301? Or make a pass through Perdenales State Park?
If those roads aren't all that interesting, I'll just go directly down 281. There will be a Ducati Monster with me, so we're not looking for cow paths to ride.

Dang, now I really have to try and make it! It will be the first time I've seen Sleepy since he sold the Repsol to me. It could be a reunion of sorts...
I am still a "maybe," we've got a neighbor having a birthday party for their kid that day, and SWMBO might not grant me a kitchen pass to go out and have fun while she is "enjoying" a kid's party! :nana: We'll see...

is this just pie and bike gawking
What often happens, groups from various areas try to meet up and head in the direction of the gathering. Routes and pace are discussed and the ensuing adventure begins. There are a few dirty riders around, so the promise of gravel roads or jeep trails could very well bring some folks your way.
I tried the DS a couple of times, before I learned that the Tiger really isn't a DS bike. At least in my hands. :-)

Scott, I've managed to put about ten thousand miles on the ZRX in our first six months together. And she's not even the bike that I commute on, so I guess that I'm getting plenty of riding, too. I think that what we miss is the spontaneity of both of us being able to just jump on our bikes and go. As for cherishing your daughter's infancy, I couldn't agree with you more. I was fortunate enough to only be working three days per week for the first eight months of our son's life, so I was able to spend a great deal of time with him, just watching him grow. Like every change in life, you give up something to gain something else. But my advice to any couple who's going to have a child, is to always get all of the things done, as a couple, that you've always wanted to do, before you have the child. Because afterwards, there's usually just not enough time.
OK, everyone who is riding up from San Antonio post up here! Do you guys want to meet, or will it be every man for himself? There may be better routes, but I plan to take 281 from 1604 on up. Might take a different route home, it all depends on the timing, weather, etc...

Ducati Austin News
S2R 1000 and Paul Smart 1000
This Friday and Saturday
Stop into the shop to get a peak at the first of two new bikes from Ducati.
The S2R shares the chassis with the S2R 800 and S4R but includes the new 1000DS that has received great reviews in the Multistrada. It also has a paint scheme new to the Monster line up of silver with a black stripe that gives it a very updated look.
The very first Paul Smart is in the building. It is already sold but the very generous new owner has agreed to let us display it this Friday and Saturday only. Swing by and check out. The Sport 1000 should be here by the end of this month.
Thanksgiving Sale – November, 25&26
Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving plan to make a visit to Ducati Austin for a once a year opportunity to save some serious cash on tires, leather jackets, helmets and other fun stuff for you and your bike. We will have a bunch of stuff on sale to make room for Christmas items still on the way from Ducati and also to reduce our inventory for year-end.
Tire Special - $10 mount and balance per tire – Friday and Saturday 11-25&26 ONLY
Ducati Austin will be featuring great prices on in-stock tires and mounting and balancing for only $10 per tire. This is a great deal and will not carry over to any other days. The tires are here and the techs are ready so make plans to take advantage of this first time ever special. (examples - Metzler Sportec M1 190/50-17R for $116 or Michelin Pilot Sport 160/60-17R for $97)
Texas Ducati Trackdays – Last chance this year!!!!!
December the 5th at Texas World Speedway
All bikes are welcome at Texas World and this is the last chance of the year to get some tracktime and riding instruction with Texas Ducati Trackdays. The cost is $150 per person and we welcome all bikes and riders to participate. Our trackdays are a little bit non-typical. We try our best to keep the testosterone and egos in check and provide a very relaxed non-competitive environment. Enjoy riding and learning without any pressure to ride above your abilities. If you have ever wondered what riding on a track is like, this is a great opportunity.
Call the shop at 512.291.5100 to discuss details and requirements for the trackday or you can simply sign up at www.ducatiaustin.com
Please help us spread the word on our sale and trackday. Feel free to forward this mail to your friends.

Is the Austin troop meeting up somewhere to make the ride to Blanco together?
Not that I know of. But I'd be glad to meet some poeple in S. Austin if they want to follow me out. I'll head out through Manchaca, Driftwood, and Wimberly to Blanco.
I may do a short bit of dirt coming home, but I just washed the bikes, so maybe not. :-P
Is the Austin troop meeting up somewhere to make the ride to Blanco together?
Sounds like Scott is going direct from south Austin. Rusty may be slabbing it down, and DS back. My buddy dropped out, but we were planning on 1431, then meander from Marble Falls to Blanco. After that direct back to Austin.
I live near 183 and Spicewood Springs, so could meet you out north somewhere if you like. If you need to make a later start, I could drop 1431 off the route, and just keep the southbound roads around 281.

What time do you want to meet up? I'd be happy to hook up with you at 183 & Spicewood (we could meet in the parking lot by the Big Lots) or up at 1431 and Lakeline Blvd (there's a Shell Station on the westbound side), unless you have another suggestion. I'll be coming from the 620/2222 area.

I had a great ride back with Walt and Clinton, we reversed the route Clinton posted earlier. Nice scenery, and a lot better than powerslabbing 281 home (too many cops out there anyway, and thanks to the unknown stranger in the white pick-up who warned me about the LEO lurking in the bushes just past the Guadalupe River!). I wasn't going that fast but why take chances?!? I think he was suspicious as I was doing 63 in a 65 when I passed him, but I acted like I was enjoying the scenery and didn't know he was there.
So, no tickets, some great pie and met some friendly folks...overall a great day!
Cheers! M2

Great Pics M2!
We should make you the offical Pie Run Photographer!
I enjoyed meeting everyone and the pecan pie was delicious :-D
I'll look forward to seeing you all on the road.
I'd like to nominate the Pipe Creek Junction Cafe for a pie stop sometime...
It's on Highway 16 in Pipe Creek, you can't miss it...good lunches too.
They're closed Sundays...it's a bit larger than Deutch Apple.

Enjoyed the ride folks.
Thanks for the "push" when I arrived-
I backpeddled right into that hole! :help:
The Kendalia burger was GOOD - and the "ambiance"...well
Thanks for the burger tip Mark. I don't think your wife liked the ST1300 pillion compared to your GW - but if you ever think about a trade......keep me in mind.
I thought I had more hair than is showing in the pics above!
BTW - The B&W pic of the Guzzi and old BMW above is "classic"!

I see Kelly (FWREx) in one photo. Anyone else from DFW make it?
Yep, Kelly was there. IIANM, he was the sold rep from the DFW area...

I had a good time. Nice meeting some of the southern folks. Thanks again to the "three musketeers" for helping me right my bike after I stalled and dumped it leaving the parking lot. Total damage: a small scratch on the muffler, a broken turn signal lense and a bruised ego. Serves me right for being in a hurry to leave and not letting the bike get good and warmed up before I took off. All in all, it was a good trip. Got back to the house at about a quarter to five. A day spent riding and some good people to sit with, eating pie and talking bikes. Couldn't ask for more.

Dumping a bike seems to be quite common on pie runs.
Seems to happen after eating. Think there is a connection? :suicide:

We had an intersting character show up also, although not from our group, I think he was a "local". So how about that Kiwi there Kelly?

i think he was an Aussie...but still a Harley Dood
Yep, he was an Aussie, I remember Kelly saying so after he lambasted us for leaving him to talk to "the Harley dude." Apparantly he was much more friendly than a US Harley dude, but I have found "that attitude" to be more common in the States than in other countries.
Cheers! M@

My guess is that the bikes get sick of doing all the hard work, and then getting left out on the pie eating. Just think if you had to drink the same gas all the time, you'd get cranky now and then too! :nana:

That was the best apple pie i've had in years. The best pie from a pie run as well.
Gotta try one of those Kendalia burgers sometime too.

That guy was a trip. Kept going on and on about his "230 horsepower, turbocharged Shovelhead, running 12 psi of boost".:loco: I kept getting a mental image of this guy burning rubber away from the local bar, spitting out ashtrays as he heads down the street. Truly, he wasn't as obnoxious as some of the "faithful" I've met; his priorities were just in a different place. Although what I did find fascinating was his ability to use the "f" word as punctuation. I had drill sergeants that weren't that fluent with it.

Hi Folks,
It was nice meeting several of you on our return leg back to Austin. Steve and I were dying for a slice of apple pie and didn't want to run down to Medina. I heard about a great pie place in Blanco, so we decided to give it a shot. Dang, that was some good pie.
Lucky for us the TWT crew was out on pie run too, giving Steve and I a chance to visit with a few of you. You all seem like nice folks and I hope we'll run into you again sometime soon.
Take care.

:tab Welcome to the site Bandera! There are a bunch of TWT folks in Cedar Park. There is a regular bike night on Tuesdays at the Rudy's BBQ on 620 just North of 2222. Keep an eye on the Upcoming Events forum for details.

He had said that he was from New Zealand when Kelly and I were talking to him. He also griped about how his riding buddies didn't like to get out before noon.
I told Naomi about this guy with "really, really, colorful language" that showed up. He was rather adept at using that term in many ways......
BTW - The next Tuesday night at Rudy's will be the 29th.

On a Shovelhead? He must mean this if he has a shovelhead:

...turbocharged Shovelhead, running 12 psi of boost".:loco:...
Ummm, first of all, isn't "turbocharged Shovelhead" an oxymoron? Secondly, let's assume that there was someone brave enough to try this, how would they keep the engine in one piece with that much pressure? :brainsnap For the Harley fans in the audience, please don't take this as a knock. I think turbocharging anything of that vintage would produce some very interesting (make sure you have on clothes you don't care about) results...
Ummm, first of all, isn't "turbocharged Shovelhead" an oxymoron?
Your thinking about the knucklehead. Of course, a good builder can probably make about anything run well. Or perhaps, you cringe at the idea of riding a beast with the piston pointed directly at your groin...

Reminds me of when I was a kid... My dad was called in for a meeting with one of my teachers who told him, "Sir, are you aware that your son swears terribly?"
Dad replied, "Yep, I know. He's got the words down, but he just don't put enough FEELIN' in 'em!"
