We took some pictures at the race.

It was fun to watch and there were 3 of the special sections that I don't think I would ever attempt. Maybe a few years ago when I healed faster but not now. I wish we could have stayed to see the night laps.

Very nice, thanks for the pics.

I was wondering what the story was with the race, didn't see any news about it this Monday morning.

Only 18 riders started the night laps. 14 finished and they cut the 3rd lap to 30 miles and the 4th lap was even shorter. Somewhere around 100 riders were entered. The race will air on Speed Channel on Dec 11th.

Kevin,

Weird....where was this race? I think I actually know the guy in Photo #25 (The guy with the mustache). He works for the same outfit that I do.

Here is the link to the place. I have been there once but it was raining and muddy so we did not stay long. Now that I have seen more of the placed I plan on going back. Its only about 1.5 hours from the house. Seeing the race made me really want a new dirt bike set up for woods riding. I can ride most of that stuff on the XR650 but it takes more work than I like. I think I will take the XR and the DR out there in a couple of weeks and decide if I am going to keep either of them or sell them both and buy something else. I am leaning toward a KTM 300 or a Yamaha 450.

I think it was in meunster. They have some crazy trails, would of been fun to ride.

Muenster is the place. Plenty of variety out there with good stuff for beginners and expert level stuff if you want it.

Great pics! I used to do hare scrambles down near Sanford NC back in the 1980's on a 1981 Suzuki RM125X. It was fun but not the best equipment to be riding in the woods with the powerband it had. I survived the day, finished about 12 out of 20. Ah the memories..but no photos.

If you are within a two hour drive of the Red River Trail Riding area (more commonly referred to as Muenster although it is closer to Bulcher), you definitely need to make the trip if you are a dirt enthusiast.

This is some of the most varied terrain I have ever seen. Miles and miles of single track where the four wheelers can't go. The riding is incredible.

It can be as difficult or as easy as you personally choose to make it.

You plan on spectating, working, or riding the race?

I wanna race it. I could be the first man falling.

If you don't have a jeep or dirt bike, how difficult is it to get around as a spectator? Woodbutcher showed me some of the event and I'd really like to see this live.

They have trams that take people to the most interesting sections.
So getting around isn't an issue.
Red Bull did a pretty good job the first time around and I'm sure the second one will be even better.

We are going to bring the camper and make a weekend of it. I planned on volunteering for at least part of it but I want to be able to move around and see a lot of the race as well. Riding in the race is not something I have considered. I have done 6,12, and 24 hour mountainbike races so I am sure I could get ready endurance wise but I don't think I want to break the bike or myself on stuff like triple threat and the Josua Hill climb. I take a lot longer to heal than I used too and bike parts cost too much.

The race itself is invitation only. Don't know how they determined who they would invite but there was no general entry to the last one.

I imagine Loweed would beat you on that one.

I think I read somewhere that this year's is gonna be by qualification, not invitation.

That makes some sense. So those interested have a target to achieve to actually get in there.
I'd like to see the qualification requirements, it has to be pretty stringent.

This is a high end race and they need to keep the field as competitive as they can.

Guess they'll have to keep David Knight away if they want to see any real competition. Although he's been beat before in other events. Maybe he won't run away so badly next year.

From what I understand, the race is invitation only of the 200 best riders in the world. I too am planning on going to spectate and work the event. I have some buddies that worked it last year and they said its pretty neat to see. :)
