(I got the above info from a web search, and there was no street address listed. Maybe Scott or someone on the ride can speak up as to where exactly it was located and/or how to get there)

By chance, the day-after-the-Houston-IMS ride ended up in Franklin around lunchtime. A local at the gas station told us about this place, and I (for one) am glad Scott asked a local.

Upon arrival, it didn't look like much. A few cars out front, not many tables inside, and a one page (front and back) menu. It looked like a place that the locals keep coming back to, complete with nostalgia-laden walls and a table in the corner for the waitresses to sit at when they weren't up and moving.

The food was good. The onion rings were big and yummy (and although not on my diet, I splurged:roll: ), as was the grilled chicken sandwich. A few at the table ordered the daily special - baked chicken with a whole bunch of sides, rolls, and desert. They offered a large and a small portion, which is always a good thing for those that need to get a leg back over the bike and still manage to get home without an absurdly full belly.

Scott commented that they need to hang some hammocks across the street by the courthouse (where we parked under the shade trees) so that people could come and enjoy a meal and then a nap.

I'd like to get back there to sample more of their menu, but the ride over (from Huntsville) wasn't especially twisty or interesting. If we wander that way again, I'm sure this spot will come in handy.

IIRC this had another name last time I ate there about 6 or 7 years ago. Was it right next to a western wear store? If it was it used to be a family style diner, with a huge lunch special every day. I haven't eaten there in a while because the wife and I prefer the little cafe by the hotel on SH79.

:tab It is just West of Hwy 46 before the Courthouse on Decherd. It is next to an old fashioned bank (closed). The place is not much to look at but the food was very good. I make a habit of asking everyone if their particular dish was good and if they would come back. Got a yes from everyone in the group.

There be a few twisty roads around them parts, too.

Go south on Hwy 79 @ 10 miles out of Franklin and turn right onto FM 2549. Turn north (left) when you get to FM 391. At Wheelock turn right onto Hwy 46 and go to OSR, then head east (left) back to Normangee. FM 2549 has a few fun sweeping curves, and 391 is a tighter somewhat rougher road.

That might be the way we came back. OSR looks familiar... Scott would know, which would end all the guessing. Lots of sweepers, one section was almost back-to-back sweepers, but nothing too tight (other than one or two, everything was posted at 50+, which I love)

:tab We just went up 2446, 46 and 979 and did not get as far West as 391 and 2549. Sub 40 corners are not common on that direction except in a few select areas and only for a short bit. I think Squeaky was expecting it to be more like East Texas with lots of 30-40mph corners one after the other.

Yeah, it's not like the roads around Newton and Burkeville.

Side note: Franklin looks like a sleepy little town these days, but 40-50 years ago it had a reputation as a rough place full of hard-living, hard-drinking, hard-fighting characters, with lots of political corruption on top of it all. My brother-in-law grew up a few miles down the road in Hearne and he says that's where the excitement was when he was a kid.

Yeah........... That would be just about all of Leon County today.

Franklin (Robertson County) is THE place to move to if you have kids and you come from the Brazos Valley. Acreage that just a few years ago went for $600 an acre is now $3,000 or more. They have probably the best school district around.

Oh, 391 got repaved. It's short, but fun.
