Guys, I would like to ride out to the new Coopers BBQ in new braunfels. Coming from north austin. Any good roads I must try? I will be on the Vstrom but I want to avoid the highway at all costs. Dirt roads welcome.
thanks.

I guess they replaced the old one? The old one didn't have the goodies like the one on 183 in north austin like st louis ribs, pork loin, prime rib, etc.
Anyway, your outta luck wrt dirt roads unless you go way out of your way, but this route will have a few bumps.
Take mopac all the way to 45, then to where it deadends into 1826. South on 1826 to 150. 150 East for 1 mile to driftwood, right on Cr170 to 12. South on 12 to 32. West on 32 to purgatory road, turn south. Turn west on 306 to 2673. 2673 to river road to 46 and into new braunfels.
hth!

Im actually working on a new website for my BBQ travels...I may have to test it out on you guys. Basically I ride my bike all over Texas, collecting rubs and sauces from all the little "hole in the wall" BBQ joints I can find. And then offering them for sale nationwide. It all started because I am constantly having to mail BBQ sauce to my buddies that dont live in Texas anymore. Plus, I love finding places that bottle their own sauce in mason jars, and hand write the labels. you know its legit.
Let me clarify....I dont "dislike" salt like. I just feel its over rated. I wouldnt turn down the chance to stain my shirt with it tho.

You want Scott's BBQ - voted Best in Texas by those who know
Well, my favorite BBQ establishment (ribs) is The Country Tavern in Kilgore. I haven't been in years, so it might have changed.

I live in NB just a few blocks from Coopers, that is one of my regular routes to Austin. Just a quick note it's tourist season River Road is a heavily patrolled parking lot all summer long Fri, Sat, Sun so be prepared for a 20 mph ride

When are you doing this? I live just east of Wimberly. Maybe we can meet up and have Budzrex give us a tour of the N.B. area. Always in search of good B-B-Q.

Looks like i confused cooper's with rudy's. I hope the new one in NB doesn't suck like the coopers that opened in junction a couple years back.
If you're looking for dirt coopers in llano is still the place to go. Lots of dirt
west of there.
This is CR 346 west of cherokee, to get there though you gotta get to 190 west of san saba to richland hills, I think its Cr352 there

I had all kind of pucker moments on this road, get out of the tire tracks into the marbles and its a thrill.

eventually, if you're coming from the north you'll hit this road, fm 501 west
of cherokee. Its turned into CR310 by then.

501 dead ends into 71 west of llano, a couple more miles west and you hit fly gap road, which takes you back to 29 about 20 miles west of llano.

Eric2Tex, those roads are what I need! Maybe I would just go to the Llano location if I knew that route. Looks fun.
I have only had the strom for a few weeks, and I am a dirt rider at heart, so I really need some dirt roads to play on.
