No....No...No...The annual Terlingua Dual Sport Ride has not been resurected for 2005.....But we all wish Berl Hughes, the organizer of the official ride a complete and speedy recovery so he can hold his ride again next year....I know I'll miss him telling us all to " Shut up and listen" this year....It seems I'm not alone as many people have asked me if I could organize some kind of ride for later in the year so they can get their Big Bend Fix.....
Here's the plan:
Hunting season on Terlingua Ranch will be over by the weekend of December 17th and 18th....The weather will be cool and the riding will be great....
The almost 220,000 acre Terlingua Ranch will be the ride HQ....They have agreed to hold all their 30 cabinsfor ride participants until the end of October......The room rate is $65.50 per room, up to four people per room.
RV hookup and primitive camping is also available.
To join the ride you must stay at Terlingua Ranch.
Saturday morning we'll have a breakfast buffet at the Bad Rabbit Cafe ....We will ride from the Ranch after the 8:30 am rider's meeting make a complete loop of the Big Bend National Park....Lunch will be the responsibility of each rider and gas and sandwiches etc are available at the store in Rio Grand Village.
By the time we get back to the Ranch we''ll have covered about 200 miles mostly off the pavement.
Saturday night will be a Catfish Buffet at the Bad Rabbit Cafe with live entertainment from Brent and William, also known as " The Bent Love Handles"....These guys are really talented and very entertaining...
Sunday morning we'll have a breakfast buffet at the Bad Rabbit Cafe and then take a ride North on Terlingua Ranch, probably less than a hundred miles.
To join this ride call Terlingua Ranch and make reservations for at least Friday December 16th and Saturday December 17th
Be sure to identify youself as a part of Steve Smith's Rocketman Ride.
VERY IMPORTANT....email me and let me know how many you will be in your group gstevensmith@msn.com
Your bike must be street legal with at least a 90 mile gas range.....The ride will be on roll charts and maybe GPS if we work hard at it...
No gas is available at Terlingua Ranch any more so bring your bike full and have at least 5 gallons in a can to top off at night.
There will not be any Shirts or Prizes but there won't be any entry fee.....This is just for fun.....I will have sweep riders just in case.
This ride will satisfy some of the seasoned veterans but is also suitable for novice riders that are properly prepared.
Check the attachments for suggestions on how to be prepared....
I'd like the ride to be about 50 or 60 riders but it's first come first served....Call the Ranch now @ 1 432 371-2416
Don't rely on on line reservations.....Call direct....
