I just posted the exact same messages in the "Rides" section, but this area seems more appropriate:

Hello, everybody. I'm new here.

I currently have the following:

- ST1300 Honda
- VT750CD Honda Shadow ACE (47,000 miles and for sale...)
- SV650 track bike (I'm a LSTD crasher, not a racer)
- KLR650 (buying in Austin Thanksgiving Day)

Which is why I'm here:

Are there any adventure touring types on this board? More specifically some in the Hill Country area who'd like to ride dirt/gravel over the Thanksgiving weekend?

I'm totally new to off-road riding. I have ridden less than 200 miles of gravel, mostly the Top of the World highway from Tok to Dawson on the cruiser. Never been on a dual sport/dirt bike, so it won't be much fun for you if you are an experienced off roader.

But I need a guide, a tutor, and someone to call for help when I crash...

Or, simply some advice on good, non-technical roads and I'll go it alone.

Thanks in advance.

There's lots of great folks on this forum that fit in that category. They even amuse me on occasion when I want to take my Strom on some dirt/gravel.

Check the forum specifically titled "Central Texas Dual Sport" and also the "Getting Dirty" forum, although that's more for dirt and trail bikes. Don't be afraid to speak up, post a ride date or idea, or just meet us for some BBQ or pie!

...oh, and welcome to the assylum!

Hey, glad to see you found your way over here. What do you say to some wandering on Friday after Thanksgiving? I'll take you to some roads that I was showing a friend with a BMW 650gs to ride on.

I came over right when you suggested it.

These are dirt roads you're refering too, right? Not just some back roads? I want to get on dirt and gravel!

Where are these roads? I'd like to go to the Hill Country and find something with elevations.

Yep, dirt and gravel. I'll have a better list after this weekend because I'm actually going to do a little riding out there myself.

You'd better hurry, they're paving them faster than you can ride them...

You planning on the Kerrville area? Doing another epic, like the last one you posted?

That note was before the epic ride. I'll post tonight about today's Tour de TxDOT and deer dodging. Heading out the door for my sister's for turkey now.
