Howdy,

I need more pictures of Texas roads and scenery for use as banner images at the top of the site. If you have any that you would like to contribute, please email them to me at contact@twtex.com for consideration.

They need to have a final size of 350 wide x 87 high and be in the GIF image format. I will sort through the images and select the best ones. Best means they give you the itch to go riding

Best regards Scott:

There's any location/photoalbum where to see/browse the original images (before the 350x87 mod.) ...... ?????

:tab My hard drive ;-) The problem is, there are 132 images. What you see is just a small part cropped from the original 4:3 proportioned image. The original images range from 1Mb up to a little over 2Mb. Not only would it take forever to upload them, once people started viewing them, it would kill our bandwidth. So I don't keep them online.

:tab If you are ever up this way, I'd be happy to show you any of the pics you'd like to see, and if I can remember, I'll even tell you the who, what, when and where of the pics.

Best regards Scott:

Have you tried hosting the images at:

www.imagestation.com (Unlimited free)

or

www.fotki.com (10MB Free)

Howdy,

The imagestation might work. At 2Mb each, I would only be able to get about 4-5 pics on the other service. If you see a banner you really like, right click on it and get the filename. Send me a message with the names of the ones you want. I can email them to you.

....At 2Mb each.....

WOW...That's too big.....!!!! What resolution are the pictures..??? You can "resample" the picture and keep the same resolution at a smaller size without loosing noticeable quality....!!!!!!

You can use IrfanView for this and the IrfanView is free.

Tourmeister

Yeah, I use Irfanview all the time. Have for years. It's a great little program. But it would take me a lot of time to go back through all my original images to find the ones used for the banners, then resize them, then upload them... Most of them came from shots in my trip reports, both the ones here at TWT and the ones at my Sfriday.com site. Most of those images are about 500 pixels wide in 4:3 format.

Are you interested in any particular images or just all of them?

Those are very cool pictures..!!! I will like to see all of them...!!!! But do not want to create you any problems. I'll wait until you can put all of them together....!!! In the meantime I can just hit the "refresh" button and it will show a new image.

Have a nice San Valentine's day for you and your wife...!!!!!

Sam rejected... too bizarre :-P No one would have a clue who he is except you and maybe a handful of other folks.

Second shot already incorporated ;-) Nice shot!

I have been thinking lately that I need to rotate out some of the banner images and replace them with shots from more recent rides/trips. As always, everyone should feel free to submit their own pictures as 350 X 87 GIFS. Many of the current pictures are not mine but were sent in by various members. But like you just saw, I retain VETO rights over all pics ;-)

Shoot, couldn't it be like a secret TWT handshake?

Just kidding, I figured as much, but just had to offer it up anyway, since it was so weird looking...

Of course, you do realize that my rally towel contains the answer to life, the universe, and everything (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Answer_to_Life,_the_Universe,_and_Everything). .. :chug:

I hope to be getting some good pics soon. I am helping a buddy fix up an '80 GS550E. It is his first bike, I got him to take the MSF beginners course, and buy a helmet, jacket, and gloves all before getting the bike running. As part of the shakedown tests of his bike, we will be hitting 3090 and 166 just for fun. I will be taking my 35mm SLR and tripod and a few lenses to get some "action" shots. I'm hoping to be able to put them on the GS resources as well.

If any one has a scenic location within 100 miles round trip of College Station I'd consider setting up a shoot there too....

Remember, the purpose of these trips is to make sure his bike is working without getting too far from home. ;-)

Not a good image, but a worthy subject of late. ;-)

Btw, here's a slide show of the current list of banner images: clicky (http://bitsof.info/cgi-bin/pb.php?url=http://www.twtex.com/templates/subSilver/images&base=logo&nlen=1&start=1&end=186&ext=gif)

I guess it's obvious I'm not into working today. :-D

Proof of Taco Cabana existence, sort of:

Too dark and hard to see detail. Pie one good but too small width wise because of the transparent edges.

Scott, did you get the 2 groups (1 from the pie run & 1 from AZ) of images that I emailed ? I just noticed that the email on this thread is different than the one on the thread I used.

Would this one work?

http://home.comcast.net/~adanv/DPBMWCrew.jpg

I tried to crop it from this picture (http://bylaw.smugmug.com/photos/1846238-L.jpg) but maybe its not a good donor picture to start with..... :-?

Casey, got the pics. Just have not had time to mess with it. I'll try to take a look at them this evening.

Adan, you chopped out the yellow GS!! But that one will work.

Not a problem, just wanted to make sure I was using the correct email. Do you prefer one or the other?

Howdy,

They need to have a final size of 350 wide x 87 high and be in the GIF image format.

Adios,

Do they have to exactly that size? The reason I ask is that most of my pics are shot in such a way as to fill the whole frame with important subject matter and when I crop the height to 87 sometimes they are only 87 to 225 wide.

Tourmeister

Yes. Thay all have to be the same size. Sorry.

I guess I'll quit wasting time resizing then, as none of my photos lend themselves to that format.

Thanks for the quick response.

OK I figured out how to do this. It is a good test of creativity with photography--I like it. I will be sending some photos soon. Let me know when you want me to stop. I have lots of pictures that my SO and I have shot over the past four years. I will send about 5 or so at a time if that is kosher with you.

Tourmeister

Send them in the evenings. If I have to download the emails during the day at work, it takes forever since I don't have a broadband connection at work.

Too cool, it is always exciting seeing you/our own photos show up like this--Thanks Scott.

BTW we just shot 14 rolls of film in the hill country with lots of bluebonnets. Let me know if you would like some more.

:tab Well, as you can tell, I don't use all the ones you send, but always feel free to send more ;-) I try to pick out the ones that highlight the people, that make the whole experience personal. Also, I like the ones that really capture the essence of the riding experience: the good curves, the scenery, etc,... Some pics, once reduced to size just don't look right, can't really explain it. I had a lot of my own that I thought would be great, but after cropping and resizing them, it was obvious they were no good in the size required.

:tab I have given thought to making th ebanner images larger. The problem is that larger image size usually translates to larger file size. For those of us fortunate enough to be on broadband access, this is no biggie. But for those unfortunate souls still stuck using dialup, it can be a real turnoff to the site when they have to sit and wait forever every single time they change from one page of the forum to another.

Looks like the banner image locations changed. Here's the latest cheap slide show (http://bitsof.info/cgi-bin/pb.php?url=http://www.twtex.com/forums/images/misc&base=logo&nlen=3&&start=100&end=195&ext=gif&suffix=).
