Assuming they keep the same schedule. The San Marino, Italy and, ,Aragoza, Spain motoGP events are two weeks apart.
Wouldn't it be fun to fly to Italy, rent/buy a Ducati, and attend the San Marino event. Then spend the next two weeks riding northern Italy, Switzerland, southern France, and ending up in Spain for the Aragoza motoGP.
If I bought the bike I would then ride to Portugal to have the bike crated and shipped and fly home. Three well spent weeks. I better start saving my lunch money now...

That would be awsome, and in my book a one in a life time trip.
Good luck I hope it work out for you. Unfortunatly, trips like this are so far out of my finacial grasp I can only dream.

You might find it more financially advantageous to ship your bike to Europe for the two weeks than rent a bike. I'm including the cost of insurance in the EU for your bike.
Check the pricing for both, you might be surprised.

How about fly and buy, and after you're done, sell it. Might be cheaper, or evn break een if you get a good deal on the bike.

Sounds like great fun. But, I would think it might be easier to fly, rent, buy when back home. I wouldn't want to ride a brand new bike on a vacation that important.

I consider the "fly-buy-ride-sell-fly" option contains two things that will complicate matters, the "buy" and "sell."
Why would you add two complications to your vacation? Find the bike before going (shop for one after you get there? wasted time!), buy it (pay the VAT!), fix the previous owner's leftover problem (buy new? you can't be serious?! the hit on the value of the bike would pay for shipping yours to Europe!), ride around (what a hoot!), then sell it (find a private buyer quickly? Or sell to a dealer who will offer much less than you want, costing you even more money).
Oh, don't forget that fuel prices in the EU run $8 a gallon on average--nearer $10 in Britain. You must factor that in your calculations.

All great Input.
If I buy it would be with the intent of bringing it home. There are tour companies that put together these deals.
I'll also be looking at tour companies that do this sort of thing.

I have a friend in Houston that rented a Ducati on a vacation in Italy. If you want his contact info let me know.
He said it was a dream vacation.

I've found a tour operator, http://www.edelweissbike.com/ , that will supply bikes, guide, and make all arrangements. They are the largest moto tour company running tours all over the world. I just have to get a minimum of 8 adventurous souls to commit to going along.

The Beemer group I ride with out here is using them for their upcoming Alps ride in August...

I'd like to do the same. Perhaps with Guzzi or Tuono rather than a Duc......anyone got a line on it?

When Greece votes to leave the EU this weekend (likely) and with the pending bailouts of Spain and Portugal, the Euro will be devalued considerably compared to the US Dollar for the forseeable future. Depending on timing, you could likely get a really great deal on a bike over there.
Also, while out of the way from Italy, I would want to make a trip to the Isle of Man to see the TT races.....or maybe that would need to be a different trip for the twice in a lifetime trip.
Either way, sign me up. Sounds awesome.

A close friend used Edelweiss, had the trip of a lifetime & still bores us with details a decade later. Apparently they take really, really good care of you.

One day I will do that. It's a dream of mine to tour Europe on a bike, and Argentina also :trust:
