My buddy's dad has a 79 cb400 with rusted exhaust and he's looking for either stock or aftermarket exhaust.

Does anyone know of a place to get that online or good cb forums?

Google "mac motorcycle exhaust"
They are also known as hawk 2, CM400 and the exhaust for a CM 450 or nighthawk 450 should fit.

Here is link to a couple. http://www.macperformance.com/store/category.cfm?SID=3&Category_ID=1071

They also make a two to two system and also make replacement mufflers.

+1 on Mac exhaust.

I had a KZ650 many years ago. The original exhaust rusted out so I replaced it with a Mac system.

Install was easy and the exhaust note sounded good.

NOS replacements are available, but pricey. ~$700 for the entire system.

OK, another question about these bikes. My buddy says that he needs a new float bowl and I've seen whole carbs on ebay for $25 so I told him to get that and then he'll have extra parts.

What are some good forums for the old CB's?

I'd say good luck on the forum front. You'll find that a lot of the guys with older bikes like that are...
A. Few and far between
B. Not generally online.

I remember trying to navigate the CB1 forum. I put up a for sale ad when I was selling it. Some guy called me three months later wanting to buy it. Turns out my ad was still like number three in the for sale forum with only my post in it. Fortunately for me, I still had it and sold it to that guy.

Lot of stuff on Ebay, alright. Also, I've had pretty good luck with old Honda parts from Bates Cycle of Dallas.

Try Western Hills Honda in Ohio they specialize in NOS Honda parts. They have the biggest warehouse of new old Honda parts and if they don't have it they can find out if other Honda dealerships still have it in their inventory. I've used them many times.
