:tab Cool! I was watching that thread about the trip because I was toying with the thought of trying to go with them. Unfortunately, I just had to many other things on my plate (not includung turkey). I did get to ride with some of the ZRX guys out fo Houston. It was chilly but fun.
:tab I'm am determined to get down to the Big Bend area next year one way or another!

You owe it to yourself to go, Scott. It rocks! The river road (170) is spectacular and very challenging. Actually the challenge is deciding whether to enjoy the road or the scenery. You CANNOT do both!!! :-)

Myself and two friends rode to Big Bend this last April. It was a great trip. Camped just outside the park two nights. Became the envy of a herd of Goldwings with pop-up campers when we pulled off the paved road to do 42 miles of BAD Ore road. It was great.
The next day, we rode from the North entrance of BB to Terlingua and onto Presidio along the River Road. We were told by a Terlingua local that more Motorcyclist die each year on River road than any other road in Texas. The scenery is incredible and the road is challenging with lots of curves. Some with decreasing radiuses and lots of off camber angles.
After lunch in Presidio, we made our way to Fort Davis for another beautiful night of camping. I rode to Austin with one of my buddies while the third headed for Milwaukee or somewhere for business.
I recommend the ride to anyone, especially if you have a dual sport bike. That is what they were made for. We did a little bit of everything. From extended 100+ mph riding to pushing big fat GS's out of the loose sand.
If anyone plans on going this next year, let me know, I can't wait. I want to try the River road inside the Park. It is gravel though. Might not be too fun on a Sport touring bike.
