Howdy,
:tab Many of you have seen the thread about XR650Rocketman's son being killed in an accident during the Big Bend ride mid-December. Cross Creek and the Austin MotoSports Assoc. (AMSA), are doing a benefit ride to collect funds for the RiderDown.Org site. Here is the info as taken from the Texas Offroad Network site (http://texasoffroad.net/):
With permission and support of Mr. Steve Smith, Cross Creek will be holding a benefit race on January 15th. We will run the same course as the recent Tag Team race, but it will not be a Tag Team.
This race will be a 2 hour GP style race. Cost will be $30 per rider, and please understand that there will be no trophies so that as much of the money as possible may be given to the "Rider Down Association" as requested by Steve Smith.
We hope that you will join us on Jan. 15th. More information will soon be posted regarding classes. We will run TWO - 2 hour races that day. We will have a parade lap at 8:00 AM and racing will begin at 9:00 AM. Race #1 will be from 9 - 11 and race #2 will be from 11:30 - 1:30 (possibly starting at noon depending on riders that may still be out on the course).
We will be using our bar code system to do scoring and it will run in the same manner as the recent Tag Team race with the pits and scoring being in the same areas.
I will post classes as soon as I get them worked out. Please encourage everyone you know to come out and help support this race. The money is going to a very worthy cause and we hope to help in whatever way we can to support the Smith Family at this time.
In order for more money to go to the rider down fund, I'd like to ask that if you do not intend to ride in this race, please volunteer to help out so that we do not need to pay for flaggers, or sweep riders. If you would like to volunteer, please send me a PM. We could use several people to help flag, ride sweeper, help with scoring, help monitor the pits...etc..etc.
Thanks in advance for your support.
and
It looks like the classes will be as follows...
(We are following harescramble classes, and will put the MX-ers in where they belong. So, if you ride an "A" harescramble class....regardless of age, or type of bike or whatever....that is the class you should ride here).
D, Women, 85s and 65s will all ride in the first race of the day (9:00 - 11:00)
A,B, C, and Tag Team riders will ride in race #2 (11:30 - 1:30)
MX-ers.....if you ride level 6 or 7, you can ride in race #1 in the "D" class.
Level 4/5 - C class
Level 2/3 - B class
Level 1- A class
Basically....if you've never run a level class and aren't sure where to go, if you ride "beginner" you can ride the "D" class if you are a TRUE beginner. If you've been racing for a year, then you need to bump up to the C or above class.
Please remember....this is a benefit race, so lets try to keep the sandbagging to a minimum and respect the people that we are doing this for.
Please continue to watch this thread for updates, or adjustments on the classes.
