San Jacinto High Roller Motorcycle Club
24th Annual Toy Run
Benefiting Boys and Girls Country
December 7, 2003
Sunday, December 7th, bikers bearing gifts will ride in from all over the Houston area and converge at the Northwest Mall for the 24th Annual Toy Run, sponsored by the Northwest Houston Chapter of the San Jacinto High Rollers. The Toy Run, which began in 1980, has grown each year to become one of the largest charity motorcycle events in Texas. Over 2000 people participated in last year’s Toy Run, forming an escorted pack on US 290 estimated at five miles in length. Besides the toys, some $10,000 in cash was raised and donated to Boys and Girls Country in the name of Houston area bikers.
Registration for the Toy Run is a $10.00 minimum donation per person, or a un-wrapped gift suitable for a child 5-18 years old and marked for a boy or a girl. Run pins and T-shirts will be available to purchase. All proceeds will benefit Boys and Girls Country.
The event begins with registration at Northwest Mall, US 290 and Loop 610, in the parking lot between the Longhorn Saloon and SRO’s. Registration opens at 8:00 AM and continues until the ride departs at Noon, with a bike show, music and entertainment throughout the morning. The bikes will assemble shortly after 11:00 AM and at Noon sharp the 24th Annual Toy Run begins. Escorted by area law enforcement and the San Jacinto High Rollers, the pack of motorcycles will ride out US 290 to visit Boys and Girls Country, located in Hockley.
The Toy Run creates a huge spectacle for the kids at Boys and Girls Country. Hundreds and hundreds of motorcycles roll in, many decorated for the season. Then the kids and the bikers assemble in the auditorium, where Santa comes thundering in on his bike to pass out all of the gifts donated by Houston area bikers.
Maps and directions to the Toy Run Party and Auction, at Red River Saloon, will be given to the ride participants during the ceremonies. All are invited to attend, where there will be free food, live music, and the “famous” live auction. All proceeds go the help out the kids.
Boys and Girls Country is a licensed, non-profit home for children ages 5 to 18. Located in far northwest Harris County, Boys and Girls Country provides the highest quality care for children from broken homes and dysfunctional families, and other children who have been abandoned or abused and are in need of care. Once admitted, youngsters are permitted to stay through high school. The family-like environment encourages personal growth through academic, athletic and social achievement, vocational training, and counseling. Always welcomed are cash donations, volunteers, gifts, stocking stuffers, someone to provide a party or event, as well as repair work and furnishings directly at Boys and Girls Country.
