I'm going up to N. Carolina at the end of April, and looking at roads I saw one I'd really like to check out. It's listed on Wikapedia (google search) under NC 197. If any of you folks are familiar with the area, I'd like some info. According to the article, it goes to gravel for a "short" distance. But it also says that happens while it crosses Cane Creek Gap, so I assume it means some elevation changes. I don't wanna get in there and find out it's a bit nasty. I can always turn around and go back (from either direction), but it'd mean about a 20 mile backtrack on my route.
