Bruce (Combo) and I took a ride over to Diamond Don's 10th annual vintage mx races on Saturday. We put about 350 miles on the bikes in one day. Not such a big feat on his Super Tenere'. But it was brutal on the XR for my old butt. I've done that many miles in one day before but on a different bike or on different terrain. Slabbing it on a stock XR seat sux.
Anyway, we still had a great time and saw some beautiful machinery. A few pics from the day. I don't know about ya'll but, I really love seeing these works of art flying through the trees and over the jumps like they were designed to do.
Tanking up and taking off. Bruce with his new toy.
Me about to mount up.... Still wondering how stupid an idea this might be.
The torture rack.
A crossroads gas station that was abandoned not too long ago it seems.
Looks like they finished washing the last load of clothes and high tailed it.
Finally got there and parked next to this fortunate fella.
Team Taco's pit tent. A Bultaco owner and his dozen or so beautiful vintage racers. Sorry we didn't get better pics of the bikes he had but we didn't want to be too nosy.
The start of one of the many races.
There was no shortage of classic beauties. And this Maico was no exception.
A nice example of a CZ.
This pair looked like they were just uncrated. There was zero wear on any part.
There was no shortage of classic Japanese rides either.
A Sachs.
Some more Japanese machines and a Hodaka.
Some industrious fellow found an interesting use for old kegs.
A Bob Hannah era YZ and a beautiful Montesa.
A favorite of mine. My father had a similar Yamaha when I was a kid. So it was sentimental to see this thing looking like new.
Some ole guy's trail bike.
We only spent a few hours perusing the sites since we wanted to be back before dark. There was 10 times more to see. But even with the traveling pains induced by the XR, it was worth it to go check out. I think we might try and make this an annual thing.
