Ok boys and girls, I found a ride for the wife finally, it's a running project. It's a 78 Suzuki SP 370. It runs well, needs mostly cosmetic work needs to be done. Here's the kicker. Can I run the vin through someone other than the local LEO's? It is missing the turn signals, which I plan on replacing, but in the mean time I understand that they are not a legal requirement here in Texas, if they are present they must work, yadda yadda. Bike came with a clymer(?) sp manuel, and the headlight works but the owner has unplugged it some where. I'm hoping to pick it up this weekend.Oh and the price was right, 400 bucks. I know it's old and not powerful , but it will be her first bike so power is not needed. And she wanted a D/S but she's verticly challenged, so an older D/S was the only option.
Any input or suggestions would be appreciated!
Jason....
PS she's officially upgrading to "Lurker" status!

WOW, I graduated from college in 1978, was married and had 2 kids and only one car. My 1st job just out of college had us moving to Shawnee Oklahoma and I needed transportation to get to work. Purchased a 1978 SP 370. Sorry I can't help with any of your questions but just had to comment.

I've never run across one of these before. I was hoping for an sl 350 or something of the like. Was your time spent with the SP all those years ago a positive one?

Nice find. 400 bucks and some TLC should net a good first bike. Can't help with the DOT regs, but have the wifey geared up and register to say "hi".

I liked to ride dirt in my younger years and wanted something I could ride to work too. It served me well. After I got a company car, I stipped her and removed the battery to ride dirt only......I was pretty rough on her and she held up well until I lost 2nd gear about 3 years later. I seem to remember while living in Monahans, I rode to Midland to pick up something for my wife. I took I-20 and tucked the best I could to get to 70 MPH.

Good job fallen! I wish my wife would develope that interest.
I can tell you for sure that you don't have to have the signal lights, and the guy that does my inspection doesn't even check them. He just does head light, tail light, brake light, and headlignt indicator. That's it. He is right over hear on Fuqua just west of I45.

Well, your bike is so sweet looking and sounding that I would be sidetracked when inspecting as well. "sir, I am going to have to take it for a test ride" "I will be right back." "It may get a lil dirty in the process though." :trust:

My dad had an SP 370 when I was a kid. I remember he stripped all the lights off of it and used it as his dirt bike. :rider:
You don't have to have turn signals on the bike to pass inspection.
