Howdy,
Okay, it looks like the weather is going to be good, in the sixties with a low chance of rain. I'm going to be leading a ride out into East Texas starting from Huntsville and ending in Huntsville. Figure 350-400 miles for that loop plus whatever it takes for you to get here before and after the ride. Traditionally I call this ride the East Texas Butt Burner :lol We will leave here at 10:00am. If you want to attend, please be here by 9:30am with a full tank of gas. My address is:
1617 Woodland Lane
Huntsville, Tx. 77340
936-295-0187
If you come up I-45, take exit 114. Stay on the feeder and go through the light at the overpass. Run down the feeder about a mile and a half. At the top of the next hill is another overpass with a blinking red light. Turn right onto Ave S. The road immediately curves to the left. Go through two stop signs. You will pass an elementary school right after the second stop sign. A block later, the road ends and you can only go right, this is 17th St. Go up the short hill and on your left will be Woodland Lane. It is a culdesac. We are second house on the right. Park anywhere in the culdesac.
If you come up FM 149 to FM 1791, hit Hwy 30 and come into Huntsville. Cross over I-45 and Hwy 30 becomes 11th street. After the overpass light, go to the first stop light. There is a Brookshire Bros. on your right. Turn right onto Normal Park. Go to the first stop sign (block or two and car wash on right). Turn left onto 18th street. Go to first stop sign and turn left on Ave S. At the stop, the elementary school is on the far left corner. Follow Ave. S until dead end a few hundred yards down and go right on 17th st. Up short hill and left onto Woodland Lane.

Curious as to whether you will have maps? What kind of speeds do you usually travel? Do you periodically regroup?
My brother will be in town, he has many years of riding experience. Most of them in the distant past. Wouldn't want to run off and leave him trying to keep up with you. Or, push him beyond his rusty skill level.
This could be my chance to meet some of the individuals on the list.
If I bring my brother along, I won't be totally abandoning my family...

Howdy,
:tab The pace on the Butt Burners is generally pretty quick. We will be running backroads posted at 70mph most of the time with lots of 40mph and 30mph corners. I usually run about ten over but don't really slow much for the corners. This means that someone that is slow through the corners will fall behind or have to haul hiney on the straights. I prefer they just fall behind. I wait at each turn off for the ENTIRE group to reform. I don't want anyone pushing themselves to the point where they are scaring themselves or anyone else. I don't generally print out maps as some of the roads are not on most maps, that and I am just lazy. However, I can print up text directions.
We generally will stop for lunch around 1-2pm. Bring cash as many of the restaurants and some gas stations don't do credit cards.
Hey Bill, you gonna bring your Dad and brother?

Scott,
I am not sure if my dad or brother can make it. I spoke with my brother last night and it seams that italian exhodic piece of cr_p is not idiling correctly so if he can talk nicely to it, hold his mouth just right and get it some TLC he may try and make it.

Hey guys, may be able to make it as well. Possibly going to have a friend from work come also. She just started and rides an R6, haven't ridden together yet so can break her in with a heavy duty (distance) ride. Will check schedules and let you know.

Yep, me too. Just found out this morning that I'll need to be available for another press check. :(
Me three. I go in at 3:00 pm Wednesday (Christmas Eve) and get off Friday morning the day after Christmas. Christmas Eve I signed up for as a favor to a co-worker who really needed it off. Christmas day is just how my schedule fell out this year. :(
I'd love to make the ride otherwise. Just don't think sleep deprivation and a 700 mile round trip would be a good mix. Have fun, maybe next time.

Yep that shift work sure can suck sometimes. I have to work the 24 and 26 this year. Sometimes I feel that can be just as bad as working Christmas day.
Texmedic, Where do you work? Do you work for a Fire Dept. or a private ambulance service? I am HFD working on the west side of Houston. I'll see ya soon on a ride I am sure.
Have fun with out us guys! :chug:

In my normal state of being dazed and confused, I negelcted to remember that I am on call. The start of this ride, much less the better parts of this ride are not within 30 minutes of my house or my office.
I will have to join you another time.

Well Bill and Jeff...
:tab It is starting to look like this might be a nice small group ride. That is cool with me. Jeff, if your friend is relatively new to riding, we can keep the pace sane and if necessary not ride a whole 400 miles ;-)

Scott,
I am still in. I look forward to it. I rode on Tuesday up through the forest. It was windy which took some of the fun out of it. Once in the forest it was not bad. Saw one dude on a green ZX9 wearing all black. Wonder who that could have been?? :?

Scott,
Timing is everything. I have a wifee thing Saturday.
It is 188 miles / 3hours36min from my house to yours according to Yahoo maps. If I left at 6am and knew my butt would survive the ride to Huntsville , the 400 miles on the east texas ride and back home in Arlington the same day I would be there. Super Butt I'm not. Next time I will plan an over night in a local motel and be there for sure. Please do again soon.

Howdy,
:tab Two issues. First, I can't go on Saturday :-P I'm on call again. This is so I can have next weekend free to go to Austin... Second, the chance of rain goes up to 30% for thunderstorms on Saturday. For everyone that might want to ride Saturday, you are welcome to use our place as a starting point and I can lay out the route for you.

Yes, but Scott said he's on call Saturday. Us guys working Friday could do our own Butt-Burner I suppose...

That was me. I see Scott's response now too. Let's keep an eye on the weather and talk about it again Friday if you want.

Hey, never heard back from my friend at work so I assume she is out. I would like to go for a ride but my back wouldn't be up for a full blown 2-300 miler (plus 150 round trip to Huntsville). If ya'll wouldn't mind a forest run or something smaller let me know (jeffdean@earthlink.net). Otherwise no prob's have fun and will catch you next time.

:tab Looks like it is down to me and Mr. Bill. Oh noooo  I just finished installing the new front tire so I am ready to roll! Looks like it is still only a 20% chance of rain. Max winds predicted to be around 10mph out of the South. Should be fun!
:tab See you in the morning Bill!

Sounds good! I will plan on being in Huntsville around 9:30. I will check this site in the morning so if something comes up you can post, otherwise I am sitting on go.

Anyone still want to hook up in Huntsville for a ride tomorrow? Irondawg?
Weather looks very promising - highs in the low 70's, 10% chance of rain, with overcast.
Let's give Scott a wake-up call.

Unfortunately, I don't think I can make it. I've been neglecting house stuff too long and it's starting to creep up on me...however...if you want to meet in the middle I could do that. Just don't have the time for the 6 hour round trip to get to Huntsville and then go ride.

Yeehaw!! What a day!! It was about 59F when we left this morning at 10:00am sharp. It quickly got up to 63-64F where it stayed until about noon. After that it was 69-69F all day long and it only got back down to about 64F even an hour after dark! It was clear skies most of the day. Around noon, we got come scattered high cloud cover. The last hour or so it started to get overcast and the wind finally made it's presence felt. There was very little wind all day. Tony called about 9:30am and he was in town ready to ride! Bill showed up a little bit later and we were ready to roll. Awesome day of riding. I think I did right around 450 miles. I'll post a short write up with pics later, time for Jose's right now, I'm starving!

Just got settled in. I made it home around 7:45. 553 total miles and surprisingly not too sore (yet). I second your comments above Scott. What a great day of riding. I hope Tony will post up and let us know he made it home safely.
Good company, great roads = tremendous day!
Take care..........

:tab Man... I had to pop some Ibuprofen. My right wrist is killing me from whacking the throttle coming out of the corners to keep ahead of Tony's ZRX  And my old man knees were so tight when I got home I was hobbling around the house. Beth and Debbie were laughing at me. :| A good stiff drink and I will be nice and relaxed....
:tab Heading to Austin for New Year's. If the weather looks to be good I'll be taking the bike and staying through the weekend. Anyone... anyone...?

Made it home around 8. Once it got dark, I had to drop it down to the speed limit. The headlight on the ZRX absolutely sucks. By the time I got to Cleveland the pain was setting in. Kept wishin I could just warp myself home.Ran into some heavy fog and drizzle when I got near Lake Houston. Made it that much tougher to see. First thing inside the door was to make a pot of coffee and sit back and replay the days adventure in my mind.
Thanks for the great lead Scott and good meeting you Bill :chug:

I had the same issue Tony. Droning down 59 in the dark was not the best part of the ride. I had to stop in Splendora for petro and had a hard time convincing myself to get back on the beast. I actually feel OK today, not very sore at all.
Lets do it again soon. I may be up for something middle of next week. Let mek now if you guys (or anyone else) are in........

Howdy,
:tab The ride report is done. Read it here:

:tab I can hardly walk today. My thighs are so freaking sore!! I must have been holding myself up off the seat more than I thought. I do this when riding agressively so I can use my legs like shocks when the roads get a little bumpy. It also helps me slide back and forth quickly and smoothly from side to side. Now I grimace when I have to stretch the thigh muscles  I look like an old man hobbling around the house  I need to ride more.
