Anyone riding the national forest or the dirt roads east of 45 this Saturday?
I have a kitchen pass for Saturday but have to be home by 6pm. Post on this thread if anyone wants to go exploring. Later:rider:

I think I'm going to have to pass on this one, can't stay out all day. The kid wants me to give him attention on Saturday. (translation: I have to drive him around) Although, I wouldn't mind a quick trip to Scott's and home. Maybe I'll meet you for the road trip to Huntsville with the Kawasaki, I have something I want to give to Scott, too. Post a time and place so I can configure in the morning.

I think I know where it is, but I would probably truck up there closer to the natl forest. I am going to find out if the national forest trails are open this weekend. I really would like to get some trail riding in since I have not done any in a while. Then again, if the trails are closed...

I am going to the Rockets game tonight, so I'll check back when i get home. I am definetly going riding tomorrow whether it is trails or dirt roads. I need to stop by Tourmeisters house and give him my old wireless router. Hopefully he will be done working on his KLR and he can get away for a ride. Let me know if you want to meet Georgia, I probably will not be ready to go til 10am or so.

Bryan,
I should have my KLR projects completed by next weekend (fingers crossed).
Since bying the Buell, the KLR needs to get dirty:
Valve adjust
Lube cables
New D606's & tubes
Front sprocket to 14 tooth
Install new rear shock (w/MSM spring)
New front springs/oil
Real anxious to see what I wind up with after all this.
Have fun Saturday

Georgia,
I also could pick up your bike if need be. :)
I rode up north today after not being able to reach anyone at the forest service office by phone. Well, the office was closed by the time I rode by, but I went to the trail head and saw with my own eyes that the east trailhead was indeed open. So, the trails seem to be open :D
I am going to the TRH awards/hall of fame banquet tonight but will check in when I get back.

Bryan -
Count me in.
I'll check later to see if 10AM at
the Kuykandahl 2920 Walmart is still
the plan.

Well if the East Trail Head is open, my son and I will try to ride the trails tomorrow morning. We'll be in the silver Toyota pickup with a trailer. I'll check back in the morning before we head out to see if anyone wants to meet up.

That sounds like the beginning of a story...
My Saturday suddenly became open and I want to ride the trails.
I have not been out there in several years so someone please give me directions to where we are meeting and at what time.
I have room in my truck for one additional bike if someone needs a lift from the N.Houston, Spring, Woodlands, Conroe areas.

Last week I have off and it pours down rain like the great flood. This week I am on call and the weather is slated to be perfect... I am going to go out on a limb and predict rain for next weekend when I am not on call again... :suicide:

Greg,
FM 1375 to the Gulf Coast Training center turn in, follow the signs to Multi Use Trail parking ( couple of miles). I plan to be there about 09:00.

I can't get out till 10am. I will be at the walmart at 2920 and kuykendahl at 10am. Then head up to Montgomery and check out the east trail head or fire roads and then swing by Scott's and drop off the router then find some of the dirt roads east of 45, maybe up to phelps.

Bryan, I will meet you at the Walmart on Kuykendahl and 2920 at 10am on my street bike. If you are going to the trailhead off of 1375 I will follow you there, and continue on 1375, at I45 I can pick up 1374 and take the loop around to Huntsville. Scott- I will most likely be there before Bryan's group. Maybe I could scope out a good Kodak spot and catch them coming in on camera. Here is my cell in case anyone needs to call me: (713) 542-3484.
I hope it is not as windy today as it was yesterday. I rode in to Greenway Plaza yesterday thinking it was going to be a nice, sunny, warm ride home, what a shock when I went outside at 2:30 to check the weather and it was only 56 degrees and gusting like a hurricane (ok, not really a hurricane...)

Well, I believe I am heading out afterall. :)
I am leaving here by about 9:30 or 40 and will be out at the east side trail head around 10:30 or so.

"What great weather we had for a ride!" as Bagwell said several times today and how true it was.
Myself and VRoger and his son hit the trails first, and rode the 20 mile loop. Upon returning to the parking lot I see Bagwell unloading so we stop for a short rest, and then we all go out for some more trail riding, then repeat a couple of more times.
Two KLRs I believe it was DBDolan and another TWT but I could not recall his name (sorry). The KLRs decided to explore some of the forest roads as we headed back into the woods for some more trail riding.
The trails were in perfect condition, slightly wet in spots but plenty of traction. For some reason both Roger and Vaughn wanted me to lead most of the day. I guess that they wanted to keep an eye on me (in case I fell) or wanted to put the slowest rider up front. :-P
The good news is that no one went down, I know that I came very close several times, over shot a few corners and took the the woods but I managed to stay upright. I can's speak for the others they were behind me and I thought I heard them laughing at me a few times. :lol2:
No one even mentioned having a camera so there are no pics, sorry, next time.
Roger and son, Bagwell thanks for showing me around the area, I had a great time and will be back.

Yeah, I cant add anything really to what Greg said. It was the most fun I have had in a while. It was nice meeting everyone, and seeing Greg again. I am ready to do it all again asap.
Greg and Vroger and his son are all great riders and it was a nice pace all day. I was having fun just following and letting everyone else read the trail. :)
Beautiful Day!!!
Great Riding!!!

That was fun! Great weather and the trails were perfect, no dust or loose sand. Greg and Vaughn, Mason and I really enjoyed riding with ya'll. The reoccuring sentence during the ride home was " That was Great I'd like to do that again".

Sounds like you guys had a good time, DaveK2080 and I were lucky we saw you guys at the trail head before ya'll hit the trails. Next time you guys go I will try and keep up on the KLR pig. I doubt I would be able to keep up, but I will try.:rider: After DaveK2080 and I said hi to you guys we hit the national forest roads up to Huntsville. We then stopped by Tourmeister's where he showed us some fun dirt roads east of I-45 on his map. We ate lunch at Mckenzies BBQ then road all kinds of fun dirt roads from southeast of 19 to Cold Spring(especially John Warren road was a fun dirt road, and NF 200) back to the New Waverly area. Probably did 30% dirt and 70% paved, for a total of 205 miles. When I got home, the wife was still gone so I still had an hour of daylight so I went exploring down by Willow Creek off Gosling over by my house (the backside of the The Woodlands, TX) These were the only pics I took all day.

Thanks to GeorgiaPeach who rode with Dave and I from 2920 and Kuykendahl up to 1375 before we turned off to the trail head. Georgia I am jealous you have a nice DS bike and a realllly nice sport bike. Makes me think I need to get a pure street bike:trust: .
