Ruff Ryders Houston is sad to report the loss of one of our own, who died in a motorcycle related accident on Saturday, December 27, 2003. What was supposed to be a fun, joy ride to Brookshire, Tx turned out to be fatal for one of our female riders on FM 1458 at about 2:30 in the afternoon. We believe she died instantly when she lost control of her bike on a curve and went off the road. Exact cause of death has not been determined at this time. Our hearts and prayers go out to her family, friends and loved ones. Services will be this coming weekend. Details to come.

:tab Tough situation for everyone. How are the other riders that were with her? Being on the scene when someone dies can have serious lasting repercussions emotionally. I hate hearing news like this and it seems everytime I log on to a board recently, someone else has been killed in an accident! I'm really sorry to hear this. Please keep us posted and lets us know if we can help with anything.
Adios,

Talk about Deja Vu. I was riding down 1458 on Friday with my brother. Occaisionally, I would get far enough ahead of him that I couldn't see him. I would slow down so I could see his headlight and feel better.
My condolences go out to the rider's family and friends.
Please let us know, if there is anything we can do, individually or as a group.

Ok, well we started out on 1458 through some turns and twisties right....then we came to a stop sign and made a turn around to go back the same way. Hershey (the deceased) was no. 2 in the ride back - there were 12 of us. I ride last ALWAYS on curves and roads I don't know. I have been riding six years and still don't do curves but anyway, there was one sharp curve - one that you couldn't see over nor could you see around it. Next thing you know you see her and the bike shoot up in the air; she's tumbling cartwheels and the bike is doing the same; she hits this pole (tall metal pole kinda resembles a traffic sign with a yellow sign on it with a black arrow on it pointing to the left) then slides down and her and the pole just lying there. The pole was uprooted from the cement - her body actually took that pole out literally. Since I was riding last, I was able to pull up closer to her and get off my bike faster. Her boyfriend had already stopped his bike and gotten off. When I approached her, she was lying in the grass face down - not moving and I just knew any second she would move her hand, foot or head or something. There was still no movement. Her boyfriend was talking to her asking if she was ok. She still wasn't moving so I checked for a pulse under her glove. There was no pulse so I turned and looked at the others and shook my head. Her boyfriend was saying "she's not breathing is she" "take her helmet off because she can't breathe" and myself being in a near fatal accident on a motorcycle, I learned that you shouldn't move the person nor try to take off their helmet until paramedics arrived so I just kept telling him that we couldn't do that just in case there were neck/back injuries and he just kept saying how she can't breathe. Just then, somone in a vehicle came by and jumped out, had a bag and immediately started to try to revive her. He was an off duty paramedic on his way to work. They tried for about 10 or 15 minutes to help her with no success. I just watched in total shock because I had this feeling inside that it was over. Everyone on the scene was in shock, two of the guys left. State Troopers blocked traffic from coming through on both sides and making them turn around and go the other way. Well, when the smoke cleared so to speak, we all had to get on our bikes and ride home. Hershey's boyfriend actually rode his bike home - the residents in the area who stopped to help were all nice and offered everything they could do. One of the lady's said she was worried for us the first time we came through because she was standing on her porch when we passed by the first time. She said she was thinking to herself that she really worries about these bike riders who fly by her house on a daily basis.
This has definitely hit me being on the front row of the action. I don't participate in the curvy roads but I do go fast at times on freeways and straightways. I won't stop riding because of this but I know for sure that I will try to be a lot smarter when it comes to my life and the others around me. I'm seriously thinking about taking the advanced safety course.
I will have addresses today for the cards to be sent to.

Was the guys name Pete Martins that stopped? He is a parametic and lives on that road just across the street from the sherrif. He owns a racer support company and races himself...He is the Brigdestone Rep at the race track. Just wondering since he lives there...

Ya know, in the middle of all that madness, I didn't even get that guys name but he had on a dark blue tshirt with white writing that said something cycles and it had an image of a guy racing a sportbike on it. If that was the same guy you are speaking of, then yes I remember him. He was very nice and he even offered to give Hershey's boyfriend a ride home if he didn't want to ride his bike. I don't think we got a chance to thank him either. If you see him, tell him we are very grateful that he stopped.

:tab That's very cool. I'm glad so many people were able to come out. Hopefully, it made the family feel a little better to see that so many people cared for her.
