In continuation of THIS (http://www.twtex.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7628) thread...
Camping location?

Here's a link to the TPW site (http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/findadest/) showing maps of each region, then descriptions of each state park.

A great lil park I visited last year was Colorado Bend State Park in Bend,Texas. Right on the river bank with cliff walls on the other side.
Also Bastrop state Park south of Austin is nice they have the Lost Pines there and a touring hiway that is (I think) 17 miles long. Texas A&M set it up. Very pretty drive with no outside road entries. They do have cabins for rent, bu they fill up like a year in advance.

Huntsville State Park is nice. Good hiking trails. Nice camping area. Decent roads in the area for both street/DS. Also, there is the Stubblefield Lake National Forest Park. It is just North of 1375 on Stubblefield Lake Rd.

I can't figure out how to edit the poll, sooo...
Colorado Bend SP and Meridian SP look good and centralized.
If you prefer either of those(or Tyler SP) just post with the SP name.

Other - Big Bend NP and/or Guadalupe Mountains NP.

Yeah, they're both a pretty long trek for most of us, but well worth it.

For primitive camping near Austin, I liked Arkansas Bend SP on Lake Travis. Not far from Marble Falls, so we can do an overnighter the next time the pie run rotates that way.

Well, that didn’t really work as I thought. Maybe I should have had some better choices.
About 3-4 of the people that voted “other” didn’t list their suggestion. Either way, it seems that most agree that the central ‘Austin’ area is the preferred place to go.

We’ll try Inks Lake this time around (it should be less crowded than Garner).

I’m looking at the Weekend of March 25th initially. What does everyone think about that weekend?

Just FYI…I’ll probably do a simi-local Huntsville or Brazos Bend camp before then.

Other... Blanco SP in Blanc, TX

Nice little park. Great riding in all directions. Close enough to cities for supplies for a week or longer trip (less than 50 miles from Austin, San Antonio, and Fredericksburg). Park is just 4 blocks from "downtown" Blanco which is great for a quick breakfast before heading out to ride.

Now the downside...

It is a small park. Reservations need to be made early.

The SO and I stayed there during TexSTOC '05 and for a week when out riding the hill country a couple years ago.

We had a rally out here last year. Perfect location for riding the almight 3xxs. It has a spring fed river for swimming and a bath house (not the greatest but a shower felt nice after a couple days out there).

I must have a huge back yard. It's about 2.5 hours away.

Great suggestion! :thumb:

I've been hoping to find a place like this ever since the Sabinal Canyon Campground (near Lost Maples) closed up.

If y'all are looking for good campgrounds near the 3XX's try Yeargen's River Bend. If is just south of Leakey on the Frio River. This is the private campground I mentioned in a previous post. Check it out at http://www.riverben.com/
