Here is the info!

2006 Wudi Winter Fun Ride / Wudi8
The dates are set around the weekend of February 18 & 19.
There is a TSCEC enduro (String Prarie, TX) the weekend of Feb 25/26 & a BJEC 2-Day enduro (Scipio, OK) the weekend of March 4/5, so that pushed us a bit forward of last year.
People will probably start riding on Thursday. On Sunday morning, those who want to can move up to Brock Creek to Ride there on Sunday and a few days before heading home.

The primary focus of this mid-winter ride is to provide a place for our Brother Riders from up North to "Quit *****ing about being snowed-in, load your stuff up, and come down here and Ride with us!"
We ride the in the winter, and you can too.

Anyone wanting to ride and enjoy the experience is welcome to join us.

This is an "Unorganized Non-Event" on a large tract of private land which is graciously offered to us to play on.

Location is tentative, awaiting final approval of the Arkansas Dirt Riders on the use of the TrainRobbers Trail, but I am hoping that we will start out at the TrainRobbers Trail (between Bismark and Hot Springs, Arkansas) and finish at the Brock Creek Trail (about 2.5 hours north of TrainRobbers, just north of I-40, northeast of Russellville & northwest of Morrillton. 6 miles north of Jerusalem, in the Ozark National Forest)

Cost:
Common Sense, and Courtesy on the campground, roads, firelanes, and trails.

There will be Trail Ettiquette Guidelines.

Trail Guidelines:
The first time anyone rides any of the loops, it will be BEST if they ride with a guided group, to learn bail-out points and where to look for turns.
This is hilly and rocky terrain, with a large percentage being heavily wooded sidehill singletrack.
A beginner's loop will be provided. If you ride this short loop, please do not rut it up and make it difficult for the beginners. It is very short and there will be other trail close by to roost on.
I will have the routes marked with different color arrows to denote skill level, and will mark all turns.
The loops will be "One Way", except for roads. If you have to travel backwards (looking for lagging mates, etc) do so slowly and carefully.
Please keep it to 20 mph and under on the roads. There are other people out there using the land.
Standard horse and hiker ettiquettes apply. There is a lot of use by horseback riders on our trails.
Please be curteous to other trail users, and promote good will on the trails.

There is no ambulance on duty.
Ride Your Skill Level.

When I spoke with Dave this past weekend he said he was going. This ride is going to rock. 2 days of hard core trail riding. I love it!

Also if you plan on going since this is a National Forest you will need a spark arrestor.

I think I have one, only you would know, besides how would anyone know, I looked and cant tell

When they check you they stick a rod down the stinger if it goes all the way thru then no you don't have one. In your case Marty the KTM has one unless you put that other stinger on that I gave you when you bought the bike. I had to get the right pipe when I went to New Mexico to do that enduro.

It would really suck to make that long of a trip just for them to tell you to turn arond and go home. Plus if you are caught by a forest ranger while riding without one I think there is a hefty fine involved.:eek2:

:tab I have read on another forum (KLR650.NET) that there is a book of USFS approved exhausts that the rangers use. It does not matter if the rod won't go through your exhaust. If your exhaust is not in the book, it is illegal. Anyone know more about this?

My Yosh on the DRZ has the USFS certification stamped on it. Is that not required?

Boomhauer
02-09-2006, 02:55 PM
Yes it is required. But they will still check. The KTM and the Fart Fart have U.S.F.S approved stamped on the tip of the stinger.

So does this mean if you build a custom exhaust you have to get it "approved" by the USFS? Do they not have some kind of standard for an approriate spark arrestor?

One other thing. How many bikes actually throw out sparks?! Was there ever a case of a bike starting a fire because of exhaust emissions? Or is this just another case of irrational legislation run wild?

I could see how a glowing red hot piece of carbon could come loose from inside the exhaust and start a fire. Catalitic converters on cars have started fires when parked on tall, dry grass.

At least they aren't making us get state registration like in Colorado and now Texas.

Not sure what I'm doing yet. Going to keep an eye on the weather.

Not sure that I want to be gone all weekend either.

If the weather is good around Gilmer, maybe we should head there.

If it's bad everywhere, good weekend for domestic maintenance.

Here is what TxTrails has to say:

Twin Hills
Bridgeport, TX
Latitude: 33.189
Longitude: -97.8113

Twin Hills Ranch has around 1900 acres available for riding. There are lots of woods, hills, creeks, sand and rocks. Something on the order of 15-20 miles of trail. They are open from 4:00pm on Friday until 9:00pm on Sunday. No facilities but there is a convenience store at the entrance to the park owned by the same people that own the riding area.

sounds interesting, anyone wanna go ?

Hammer

I'm interested Marty. We'll make a weather dependant decision as we get closer to the weekend.

Riding in the rain when it's 95-100 in the summer is one thing. Riding in the rain when it's 60-65 is just gross.

But if the weatherman is wrong, and he often is, looks like something different to do.

Hammer
02-16-2006, 04:14 PM
Weather is looking more and more like a 'stay the heck at home' weekend.

Yeah, Robby, I ate chowder in a sourdough bread bowl every day we were there.
We stayed two blocks off Fisherman's Wharf. It was an awesome trip.

I saw some pics over on smack. Mucho snow and it looked nasty. I also talked to Gabe today and he stayed in a RV all weekend except on friday.:lol2:
