Has anyone done any exploring North of Devers, Texas? I can see a dirt road heading northeast on some maps but not others. Google shows something but it’s hard to tell with the low resolution in that area. My Mapsource doesn’t show as much as Streets and Trips. Unfortunate since my Garmin GPS III+ only works with Mapsource. Weather permitting, my HD convert(new KLR owner) and I will check it out Sunday.

:tab On my City Select 6.0 map, it shows as Still Meadows Ln. On the Topo maps it shows as Gates Rd. In both cases it runs Northeasterly and eventually hits a few other unnamed roads. Some of those work their way up to som Union Pacific tracks with a service road alongside it. Depending on where you come out, you should find Garcia Rd. nearby and it runs kind of Northwest up to FM 770 just South of Batson.

Sunday was great weather and Lonnie and I had a great ride. We went a grand total of about 150 miles. I had three different dirt roads to try. I’m looking for something close to home. We weren’t’ successful I’m sad to report, although we had a great time looking. All three tries started out with high expectations, GPS showing exactly where I thought it would be. Unfortunately, there was a locked gate on each road within a few miles. We only had time to try from one direction. I plan on trying again from the other end just to see how far I can get on one of them. A couple wern't worth going back too.

This is a bridge about 1 1/2 miles north of Devers on Cates road. Another 1/2 mile and another locked gate. It was a hunting club of some kind. We stopped and talked to a few ‘good ol boys’ waiting for the head man to open the gate. They said he told them he would shoot anyone on the property with a jeep or 4-wheeler. Don’t guess I’ll be going back down Cates Rd.

This was my farthest trip from home on the KTM and it was great. There’s something about cruising around on a DS that’s very enjoyable. I think the 3.5 gal. tank is going to be enough for awhile. Just cruising along at 55 to 60 it gets close to 50mpg. Obviously it won’t be that good with more off road but I feel safe going 100 miles.
