West Texas Ride (backpacking)

Hey ya'll, New to this forum. I have been on the East Texas Motorcycle Forum as of late. Great bunch of guys but no one seems to Backpack? I am getting ready to head out in the next 2-4 weeks. travel over to Hill Country State Naturaul area, Lost Maples and possibly Big Bend. Will likely do some overnighters on the trails?
I could be convinced to do hotels if someone really wanted to but would prefer to camp. Any interest e-mail me copus@txucom.net
I now reside in Crockett. I am a recent transplant from Spring, Massachusetts before that and England before that.

:tab Welcome to the site! Is this going to be a riding trip? The end of January and February is usually the nastiest time of the year around here :eek: You are a brave soul if you plan to camp and the weather does not cooperate! Anyway, the hiking in Lost Maples is good, also Pedernales State Park has some nice trails. I have not been to Garner but hear it is not bad. Big Bend simply rocks. You could easily spend weeks on end there and not cover much ground twice. Hiking makes me see funny white dots zipping all over the place so I tend to avoid it where possible :-P

:tab My wife's extended family is from Pittsfield, Mass. It is in the Berkshires. That is a really beautiful area for riding! How long were you up there?

Lived in Mass for about 16 years. Really enjoyed it, just to darned expensive.
I have been in Texas now for 24 years. Still a yankee in most peoples book? I have to remind some that being from England makes even the Texan a yankee :wink: .

I have hiked all the spots you mantioned and could not agree more about the beauty. Maybe the white spots are stars? Try hiking through the day.

I camp in all sorts of crappy weather. The clothing and tents of today are unbelievable for warmth and dryness. I am in no hurry and remain flexible so if it does not look decent I may wait? Usually a string of nice days gets my blood going and something inside takes over. Kinda like getting horny "you just have to do it".
