They're pretty much finished. I still have some armor work to do on the boxes, but they are quite functional as-is...

Academy, $9.99 each. I'd have to go measure them... What's cool is they also have a shorter version of these with the same footprint that stack on these. I can add them for longer trips, or just use these around town. Realistically, these have plenty of volume for any trip though, there's plenty of additional space on the rack with many bungee points for strapping a tent, sleeping bag, etc.

How much does it weigh? Need tools to pull the bags off the rack?

I haven't weighed it, but it's surprisingly light; I'd say about 5 lbs, maybe slightly more for the rack and maybe a pound or 2 for the boxes with hardware. I'll still add another pound of aluminum to reinforce the boxes. in the end I wouldn't expect it to weigh much more than 10 lbs total.

I created a quick release system with hooks at the bottom (see pictures) and hitch pins/clips/springs (again, pic's) at top. Just pull the clips, pop out the pins, tilt the boxes, and they're off (or reverse for 'on').

Really nice job. That rack looks as good as any commercial ones available.

Thanks :)

Until closer inspection ;) I quickly learned that welding 14g steel with a 1/8" rod is no easy task! I'm not doing that again....
