Ah yes recon work, :eat: I can vouch for the cheescake and will have a confirmation on the Apple pie in about an hour. :trust: Anything for the group. It is a neat place in the center or Kyle, had a nice chat with the owner and he is looking forward to our visit. Railroad BBQ is right next door if you are not in the mood for a sandwich.
Looks like I am in for sure:rider:

Hmm, Google Maps says it's just short of 4 hours from Houston. That's the morning that the Fearless Foursome hhits the road, but not sure how early we're planning on leaving.
I'll mention it to the others and see if we can stop in for some pie. If we do, I'm sure it would have to be a quick stop. We want to get out of Texas the first day, and uh... Texas is kinda big.

OK, we would need a coupla hours to slab or partly twisty our way down there & then follow you...
(I think I took about 2.5 hours to go the back roads to Temple in December)
Yeah, weather will most likely be the determining factor for me. I can take the cold and clouds, but I won't ride the CBR in the rain. Unfortunately, the ST1100 is still "Not Mission Capable Maintenance" as it needs tires and a rear brake job, something I have been wanting to have done for months but anytime I can ride, I go for the Repsol.
As Sleepy was the previous owner, it would be nice to meet up with him again.

Yep, I am in S.A., but Bandera is no where on the way to Kyle. It is up IH-35 towards Austin, just north of San Marcos. I will probably superslab it up, then head westward afterwards on 3237 and 2325, then turning south somewhere. We'll have to see...

I'm not going to be able to make this one. My son has his first soccer game that Saturday morning. Beyond the fact that I actually want to go, my better half would have my head on a pike in the front yard if I took off to hang out with you ne'er do wells down in Kyle. Should be entertaining, though. A herd of little three year-olds madly chasing the ball around the field, kicking the mustard out of anything that gets in their way, while I'm intoning sotto voce to my wife, "At one time, herds covered areas as large as three states."

OK-I've got a route plotted and it's 150 miles from my house to the pie place in Kyle. Hopefully, that will be about 2.5-3 hours. I'm thinking of leaving around 08:00-08:30. I know that makes for an early morning for y'all. Straight slab on I-35 is just under 90 miles from Temple. Still interested? My route takes you over a big dam (nice view), some nice twisties with scenery, and Hamilton Pool Rd.

I am looking at 135 miles slab to the Zimmermananan mansion - so 225 slab total if running late. After last Friday, I really, really do NOT want to slab I35 during the daytime hours - 6-8 AM may be OK.

**ROAD CLOSURE ALERT!**
For those of you coming from DFW and anywhere else north of Austin:
I-35 at FM 1325 (just south of Round Rock) has been under construction for some major overpass installations. They frequently have closed the interstate for the weekend and intend to do so this weekend. Traffic will be routed to the service roads and around the construction. In my experience so far, the delays have only been maybe 20-30 minutes, but they could be worse depending on traffic. If you are slabbing it down, you may want to find a route that gets you off the interstate before you get to Round Rock.
I think WC Zimmerman has a route from Temple that will bypass the construction, or if you can't hook up with him, Hwy 95 from Temple down to Bastrop, and then Hwy 21 toward San Marcos will get you within spitting distance of Kyle without using the interstate.
To avoid this intersection, I'm taking 620 around Austin to 71 and getting to Kyle on Hwy 12 if anyone wants the GPS file.

I don't know what is the easiest way for you to get to I35 - if you come down SH121 and SH360 and I20, we could meet you on the southwest side of Arlington - like the Green Oaks exit on I20 (milepost 445) where there is a Shell station on the NE corner. Minyards has gas on the NW side, too.
We could also meet you at I35W and US67 (Alvarado) - I think there is a gas station on the SW corner, but maybe a local can advise...
If we leave from Arlington, we probably should do it NLT 6:00 AM, since Google maps show it is about 125 miles from my house to WC's, and ETA is 8:00 AM.
Google shows 99 miles from Alvarado to Temple, so meet time should be about 6:30 from there.
Or we could meet in Midlothian or Hillsboro if you prefer I35E... (I think I35W would be better)...

So is the Austin crowd going to meet up north at TC and do the Lime Creek Road thing?

21 on the definite list so far. Not a bad turnout. What's the plan for lunch? Since the BBQ place is next door, are we just planning on parking at the pie place, walk next door for BBQ, then raid the Pie Company of all their stock?
Works for me!

Hey tsipper,
Will you be going a back roads route from smithville to kyle? If so I'd like to tag along.

I be livin' on the south side, so I be departin' from the south side. Lime Creek Road is WAY outta the way for me. But I'd be happy to guide a group from the south side.
I considered taking the same route BlueDogOK and I took down to the San Marcos bike night, but I think I might go out south MOPAC to FM 1826, past the Salt Lick to FM 150 and into Kyle... just to make it a bit longer ride. :rider:

How about 620 at 71 at the Shell (?) station on the north side of 71 just east of 620? 10:00 to 10:15 or so?

I don't have my Garmin software on my new computer yet so I can't see Kurt's route. But if they are running from 1431 back south to 620, they could either continue on 2222 all the way to MOPAC and meet up somwhere around MOPAC and William Cannon, or if any Lime Creekers want to come south on 620, I'd be willing to meet at 620 and 71 out in Bee Cave and take FM 3238 to RR12 down to FM 150.
So far I haven't heard any committed Lime Creek Road takers. I'll scout out a meeting place at MOPAC & Wm. Cannon on the way home and post it this afternoon. We can decide where to meet then.

Oh. You all were busy while I was composing that last post.
That is fine with me. I'll still scout a MOPAC meeting area and see what is the mood of the group this afternoon, but otherwise the 620/71 Shell is fine with me.:lol2:

I think it's a Tetco/Mobil.
Okay, I still need to get this tire changed out. Let you know for sure this evening if I'll be meeting the folks in Alvarado for the ride down.
Though I'm tempted to sleep in and just slab it down at say 7:30. hmm

Works either way, Big B, except for the reports about 35 being partially closed south of Georgetown...
Jimbo, let's plan to meet at the I35W-US67 intersection at whatever gas station is on the west side. If there ain't none, what ever station is on the east side...
Unless you know of an exit that has a station for sure on the west side...

Chuck & Zimm... Got the maps loading on the GPS now. Just a few key waypoints, not locking in specific routes, so I can always just ask for the direct route if needed and get an ETA.
Got the 15T front sprocket swapped back on last night, and finally mounted up my Givi plate, so I guess a splash of gas, a few layers of clothes and an alarm clock set me to get out of Lewisville by 5:30 and I'm set to go.
See you in Alvarado at 6:30 Chuck?

Everyone from n. Texas and Austin sounds pretty cool with meeting at the Tetco/Mobil @ 620 and Hwy 71 in Bee Cave. I'll be there about 10 and we need to have kickstands up by 10:15 (preferably earlier) to be sure to arrive in Kyle by 11. We will wait for you all coming with WC Zimmerman or TxMedic because we know for sure you are coming. But anyone coming alone from another direction really needs to be there on time or we will leave without ya!
If anyone wants to meet in S. Austin before that, call me at 512=447=8980 by 11 pm tonight or between 7-9 on Sat.

I'm leaving Starbucks in Georgetown at 9:15 if anyone wants to meet up.
Will my new KLR650 be able to keep up if I can only go 60MPH? The break-in period says to stay under 4000 RPM and today on a 25 mile run around Georgetown my top speed at 4000 RPM was about 60MPH. I don't want to push it too much just yet. :rider:

Too bad I had to sell the Wee Strom. :tears: It could go 2 X 60MPH :eek2:
I'll do my best to be at Starbucks around 9AM.
:flip:
P.S. My brother has a red '05 Wee Strom and wants to sell it. I offered to ride it to the pie run and show it off for him, but he declined. He claims to be too busy to actually go himself. What could possibly be more important than riding around in this excellent :sun: weather? That is why he should sell it. :-P
Anyone going up from or around San Antonio, I am meeting my bud at 1000 hrs (whoops, I am retired now, make that 10:00am) in front of the Hooters on IH-35N just northeast of the 1604 interchange. You have to take the first exit off IH-35 once you are off the huge coverleaf, just past the Forum Parkway overpass, almost right where the "35" shield is on this image...

We are meeting at 10, so it will probably take about ten minutes before we are KSU (kick stands up). So that means it will probably be closer to 10:25 before we get to FM306. Will that give us enough time to hit the back roads and make Kyle by 11? Let me know, and we can hook up. I frontloaded a bit of time into our ride for just such an opportunity...
Cheers! M2

I thought that was what Kurt had suggested when he mentioned the gas station at 620 & Hwy 71. If he's riding LCR and not on the road till 9-9:15, I don't see how he can make it to where we are in an hour.
If you all want us to meet you, say so. Nevertheless, it's too late to change our meeting point, so anyone who wants to ride with me, meet up at the Tetco/Mobil @ FM 620 & Hwy 71 in Bee Cave. I'll be headed west on Wm. Cannon around 9:45 and be there by 10 or so. We need to hit the road by 10:15 to make it to Kyle by 11.
Call me NOW if you are in Austin and don't know how to get there. 447=8980.

Looks like my new bike won't let me go to the pie run. :-( It decided to leak a bunch of gas all over my driveway this morning. It's in the shop right now getting service. This is my first Kawasaki to own. I hope this is not going to be a trend with this bike. :angryfire

Dont hold it against your macheen! It was more likely the guys at the shop that prepped it and unpacked it. A KLR is like a mule, not fast, not allways the prettiest thing in the group, and not the most off road capable machine. But it will get you almost anywhere you want to go, and home again. It's a solid mount. Mine lost a bolt off the lower shock bracket 2 weeks after I bought it. After a close inspection I found lots of bolts to tighten, apparently not a lot of care was taken in the dealers prep. Spend the afternoon with your bike, CHECK EVERYTHING....You wouldn't fly a plane without inspecting it thouroghly, the bike should be no different. If we were a little closer I would be more than happy to be a second set of eyes and go though it all with you.
By the way good choice on your purchase!

Thanks for the offer! I drove all the way from Georgetown, TX to Mesquite, TX to get the bike and was a little worried about not buying from a local dealer but the bike ran great for 25 miles yesterday. Hopefully the local shop can get it going so I can continue breaking it in on Sunday. :rider:
