Site Slow-downs/Outages

Just as a heads, up, I know we've had a couple of severe slow downs and even a few full out outages over the past two weeks. The most recent was about an hour ago lasting for about an hour.

With the last event I was finally able to watch what was going on, and now understand the sequence of events that are causing the problem. I don't yet have a solution to the problem, but understanding the cause should help us to reduce the problem in the short term, and hopefully fix the root problem quickly for long term resolution.

Looks like I made some progress tonight. It seems to be a race condition that occurs under load ... if the timing works out right, it puts itself into a bit of a death spiral. Made a couple tweaks ... so far it's been testing better.
