After buying a couple of old bikes, and being old myself, it got me to thinking.
What is the oldest combination of rider and ridden bike here? I'm almost 52 riding a 35 yo bike, puts me around 87 total...Who can beat me? I know this will be easy. Cheers. :chug:

Interesting. Great subject!

I am 58 and was riding a 39 year old bike - but that does not count as I recently sold the bike. This sounds fun. Someone bet this fellow!!

Let's see some AGE! :sun:

I'm 55

I restored this 60s chopper for a guy, then ended up taking it in trade for my wyfe's '02 Bonneville. It's a '53 Triumph 6T Thunderbird with sprung rear hub, so it's 60 years old. Total 115 years.

http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1461/6266009/14039299/397284416.jpg

However, to be totally honest, I sold it recently, leaving my totally original '66 Bonnie as the oldest running bike I own. That total is 102 years...

As far as RACING goes, I scratch built a 66/67/68/69 Bonneville 650 to AHRMA historic Production heavyweight rules; meaning it's totally stock except for allowed upgrades of electronic ignition, .020 over pistons and clubman handlebars. I'd say the combo of me and bike is at least 100 years if you average the age of the parts on the bike.

Two highlight shots from 2008 - Daytona & Bonneville

http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1461/6266009/20575610/335079620.jpg

Our racing record is:

5th place in 2008 AHRMA Historic Production Heavyweight Championship, as a rookie (20 riders in the class)
2nd place in 2008 AHRMA "Best of the West" Regional Championship
Set class record at 2008 BUB land speed meet on the Bonneville salt flats 91.948 MPH
Upped class record at 2009 Texas Mile land speed meet - 97.048 MPH
2nd place in 2010 AHRMA Willow Springs race

Not bad for a couple of old beaters...

'62 cb77 superhawk, 69 yo rider = 120 years...

got the bike when I was 19, (see avatar photo); it went in shed with transmission problem in '74 or so, dragged it out and restored it a few years ago. still putting a few hundred miles on it each year...

also more recently restored a '71 hodaka dirt toy/woods runner, so 42+69 = 111 years on that one...

me second from left with some other hodaka enthusiasts at Hidden Falls last november:

"To make a long story short..."

Borrowed this '74 H1 Kawasaki 500 triple to run in AHRMA's Formula 500 class for the second half of the 2008 season, took 3rd place overall in the championship only running 8 of 19 races. The last 4 races were run with a swap meet engine that had a hole in the middle piston!

Here I am with evidence of (2) 2nd place finishes at Miller Motorsports Park, and (2) 2nd place finishes at the Sandia Classic -

http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1461/6266009/20575610/340077058.jpg

Here's me with the owner after my FIRST RACE on the bike (Grattan, Michigan)- I took 3rd place! That was going from a right-foot-shift, 1-down-3-up, 4-stroke pushrod plod, to a 5-down (with neutral at the top, so don't upshift past 1st or there goes your engine braking) 2-stroke rocket with an on/off throttle-

http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1461/6266009/17867307/322257199.jpg

...and a speed shot at Barber's in the season finale-

Edit: The rear hub is tiny/ where are the rear brake pads?

Dave B
10-14-2013, 07:37 AM
Thunderbolts were 650 single carb. Lightnings were 650 twin carbs. There is a narrow drum on the left side in the rear. It is suprisingly effective. With the small drum brake in the front it really needs it.

Do you ride the CB350 very much? Any ride reports?

I do ride it. Usually once a week to keep everything moving and keeping the dreaded carb rebuild away. Though the flu and the holidays have pushed it to a couple of weeks since I have taken it out.

Great bike, I was tempted to sell it, but wife said not to. She said I would regret it and she preferred I keep it. So I kept it and have it in the rotation. I recently mounted an action camera to the bike on a ride, but I was not happy with the results. Need a better mounting point. Next video I will mount camera to helmet rather than handle bars.

1977 Harley FXE (37) and I am 58 so 95. Had a shot at a 1940 Harley 45 ci Flathead Servi-car that never panned out. Pretty much all there but "some assembly required"

I know it doesn't count but I'm 67 and was riding a 1971 R75/5 making me 110....

Is it wrong to work backwards saying I'm 55 so need at least a 1950 scooter to post? Gina said "now why would you want to do that"? Well, why not? lol
