I used MapPoint to layout a mostly back/dirt road ride to test my new ride, the one on the right below. That was before fallendown took me out to ride on posted land Wednesday, so this isn't the cherry ride now. I have no idea if all the roads exist or are passable, but MapPoint says it is 140+ miles. It starts at FM 2920 & Kuykendahl, loops up northwest of Montgomery into the National Forest, then back through Montgomery & retraces some of the route back to the start.
Anyone interested in making the ride. :rider: I open any time, but Sunday (MotoGP @ 1:00). I have an acrobat file with the route chart & snap shots of the map, but it is to big to upload. Email me & I'll send it.

Even after clicking on the thumbnails, I can't make out any detail  To small and blurry, even when I set right up to the screen and use my good eye :-P
Looking at it though, it looks like a lot of the stuff North of Montgomery is stuff I have ridden.

Guess I need attachment lessons. They are all 620 x something. The way I understand it I need to put them on the web then point to them with a url to have them bigger. The originals are bitmaps that are very large.

Donate $5 bucks using the donate link on the top of the page. Then you can upload them into the TWT Photo Gallery :trust: Make them JPG files and they can be up to 200Kb. That should do easily.

That looks very similar to the run I take from my house(Kuykendahl & Dowell-near huffsmith kuykendahl) to Montgomery and up to the forest and around then back home. I can't make it tomorrow but maybe another time. The run I also make is, that run but add dirt roads on and off to Shiro for a burger then dirt to scales ranch road then to bedias then dirt back down from bedias to 105 and back to dobbin then old 105 to spring branch rd. back to 149 then back to dobbin huffsmith then home. I think it is around 200 miles.

Well I got them in the photo gallery, but it did not help a lot. The bitmap to jpeg conversion some resolution is lost.
dbdolan, I found Shiro, Bedias & Dobbin, but not all the roads. Your route sounds interesting. I'm going to try my route one day this week. So far have not gotten any takers on coming along.

You will not be able to do the loop in the upper left corner of this route. The stretch from point 7 over to Bethel road is private and you cannot go through.

The stretch from point 12 to 13 is gravel. 11 to 12 is narrow paved. Point 10 to 11 starts out narrow paved, goes to gravel for a few miles, then back to narrow paved up to FM 149.

As you come in from the left, everything from FM 1791 is dirt until you reach the road highlighted blue. From there over to FM 1374 is a rough paved. FM 1374 is paved.

The blue highlighted road is unpaved and fun, but not always open. From point 17 to point 18 is gravel and sand and us pretty much always open. From point 18 to FM 1375 is paved.

The stretch between FM 1375 and point 20 is narrow paved, kind fun.

If you post a ride on any Friday for Saturday or Sunday, I am up for tagging along on the DRZ. I usually check for upcoming rides on Friday if I don't have something already planned for the weekend. I just put Continental TKC 80's on the DRZ and haven't ridden them yet. Beside's I have been neglecting her to ride the 650gs, so I don't want her to get mad at me! The DRZ is set up with a mount for the 276c, so between us and the gps units we can't get lost for too long. I live just South of Tomball on Spring-Cypress Boulevard.

Thanks Scott, I was concerned about the section between 7 & 8. I've been on Bailey Grove Rd to FM1097 & back to 149 in my truck, but not west of 1097. I also know all the FS roads very well. Years ago in the '70s Caney Creek enduro went down Teliaferro to FR209 then back thru the woods to 1791. I am also the TRH cartographer & put all the forest trails on a topo map by hand. I started by mileageing all the trail crossings on the roads. GPSing now is so mush better. Also have the option to take the PMT that parallels FS208. :flip:
The blue sections are not on the route. I could not get MapPoint to cross the bridge at Stubblefield Lake camp ground between 14 to 15. Had to draw that 365 yards. The route planner went from 14 back to 1375, up FR233/222 to 1374 & down to 15; then started again. I meant to put on the original post to ignore the blue.
GP, one Friday sounds good less traffic maybe that weekend, but this one (4/14) is out. I am doing the Bolivar beach ride Saturday, so I need to get ready. :rider: :rider:
